Custom Pick Guard Maker

Post by Camdiggity » 19 Dec 2018, 19:17

Hi guys,

I just purchased a MIJ Fender P Bass 57 reissue and I want to get an anodised gold pick guard.

I would like to completely avoid the hit and miss frustration of buying pick guard after pick guard that isn’t the right fit and just get one made. Where in Australia - preferably Sydney but anywhere will do - can I find someone who will do it right?

Many thanks!

I don't think anyone in Oz makes them, try these guys, tho they seem to use Allparts

I would trace your existing pickguard's screw pattern and send to them so they can match it. They sell blank sheets too.

these guys in the USA seem to be favoured a lot

Could Matt at Saltmine do one? Surely it’s not that difficult to match what you’ve got.

My partner makes hospital beds, she has a Cnc router which would be ideal for custome pick guards. Let me have a talk to some of her staff and I’ll get back to you.

Brian, down here in Melbourne could do it too but he’s looking for a Sydney guy.

There MUST have been a moment when the guy in charge of the new Mexican Fender factory asked the guy at head office "Shall I use the same screw pattern on these pickguards as we use in California?"
And SOMEONE said, " nah, use whatever pattern you feel like, can't see it ever being an issue...."

If I'm understanding this correctly
would not be hard to make your own, in theory .
You can get small sets (4) of self-centering drill bits that,
together with dbl sided tape, are ideal for reproducing screw patterns etc.
I have 2 sets, but I cant quite remember where from.
If you wanted to go that way and couldnt find any , let me know
