If you are concerned about the pickups it might be worth measuring the DC resistance and sending it to Seymour Duncan to see if it's in spec

Re: The Fender JMJ Mustang has landed - now with photos
Justin Meldal-Johnsen (jmjbassplayer), the actual signature artist, has now seen the photos of my Fender JMJ Mustang bass, and has stated the following on Talkbass:
‘’Yeah, whoah that flaking/checking is WAAAAY out of bounds, and frankly the pickup should be plenty hot. Sorry it's a bummer for you, but you should return that bad boy. And/or get Fender customer service on board. Sounds like the P/J is more your taste in every regard. Enjoy.”
So that’s gospel straight from the signature artist himself. The pickup should be hot and the relic finish should not look like mine does. I’ve emailed The Bass Centre this info plus three photos, and now I’m going to take it up with Fender. I’m mightily impressed that JMJ responded and confirmed that the bass I received is not indicative of the model itself.
Fingers crossed for a good outcome.
Cheers
Andy

that's good news, I'd hate to buy something new and be so disappointed. Hopefully a positive result soon.SpankyAndy wrote: ↑23 Apr 2018, 01:41Justin Meldal-Johnsen (jmjbassplayer), the actual signature artist, has now seen the photos of my Fender JMJ Mustang bass, and has stated the following on Talkbass:

awesome that the actual artist agrees that it is not what it should be.
Frankly, I don't think it should be up to you to engage Fender though. The retailer is responsible for all negotiations. Bottom line is that YOU are not happy thus they HAVE to take it back, no questions asked. Get a full refund.
Fender Australia will not want all this negative feedback either, if they are smart operators.....

Insert here off-topic anecdotes, long winded musings plus in-jokes with people other than the OP.

I can't see the pics but as nice as bass centre are, you still should refund it and let them & Fender sort it out
