Sadly no. They would be very expensive beans :-) I just haven't yet worked out a faster way than to shell each one by hand. I should get these ones done before the second crop arrives though. Shelling is now complete. I have a bunch of green beans waiting for roasting. Should get to that tomorrow
I think in OzBass tradition, a build thread is in order.
Pics of the green bean in it's shell, then roasting etc etc :useless:
OK, here we go. Berries on the bush, In each berry is 2 beans that need to be soaked for a few days and the rinsed to clean them and then dried. Then you have green beans. This afternoon I put them into a popcorn popper and roasted them. You are supposed to leave it a few days before you grind them, so no idea what they taste like yet.

Yes. It was a bit funny. i roasted them in a popcorn popper, and it does sound just like popcorn popping. Not as many cracks but definitely heard it.

Pete, they look pretty good, a nice light roast which is good for tasting the actual coffee rather than the roast. Looks like a nice deep first crack, and an even colour which is a characteristic of the hot air style.

This bean would be perfect for a pourover or a french press and terrible as an espresso.

Good job mate Ill hereby admit you into the coffee roasters guild, home division!

L.

oh, a quick recipe for your pourover would be 25g ground medium fine to 370g H2O , just off the boil (16/1 ratio )

I went for about 2 minutes after the first crack before my nerve gave out :-) Figured I'd taste this lot and then adjust up or down from there.

Got to record everything so you have a benchmark.
I use beans that a friend roasts(He now runs a Company called By6 Coffee roasters)and he insists that in the early days of trying to lock in his roasts, that any thing that didn't make the grade went on the Garden, anf his Garden is now very well fertilized!

I was a total tea drinker for years, never drank coffee. Then I moved about a mile from the city and started walking to work. Well, the street my building was on ran nearly all the way home, and there were about 20 coffee outlets along the way. Within a week I was craving the stuff lol
