TEC AMP.... Soley used by Richard Bona / Gary Grainger ...

Post by PilbaraBass » 03 Jul 2011, 11:38

The 1000 has 2 amp outs, each capable of driving 4ohm loads, in bridged mode it can only drive an 8 ohm load.
If you have 2 4-ohm cabs or 4 8-ohm cabs the 1000 can drive them all. If you have 2 8-ohm cabs or 1 large 4-ohm cab, then the 900 may be better value

All true that PB. The price difference is a wild card tho, two 900's for near enuff the price of one 1000. A pair of 900's seems to do everything a 1000 will and more, except deliver maximum output into a single 8 ohm cab. You also have a backup amp as part of the deal.

Should be easy to patch too as they have both a tuner out and a line out. I've never heard the 900, I would guess it sounds pretty similar. Maybe better into a 4 ohm cab as it has almost twice the grunt?
I've got a bad feeling about this....

bollo wrote:One difference not to overlook with the 900 vs 1000 is the loads they handle. The 900 will put out 900w into 4 ohms and if you bridge the 1000 you can't go under 8 ohms.

Just noticed the price, two 900's for the price of one 1000, crikey! 8|
Good point Bollo, but I have a 800w head at this time. As Kerry indicates having the 1000 is beneficial as I have a 4 ohm cab and 2 x 8 ohm cabs hence the decision to go the 1000. It does make sense to run even 2 x Puma 900's.

This was a decision I went to and fro with Jon in several conversations. Must say at the price point the 900 is unbeatable but Jon has looked after me on price. Several features on the 1000 such as the compressor won the day. I have also had the pleasure of playing the 1000 so was not buying blind and imagine no difference in the tone between the 1000 and 900. When reports first came out the 900 was supposed to be 2 ohm capable, other reports had the 1000 as being made to be 2 and 4 ohm at 1000w.

If possible it's always a good idea to buy the amp you've tried and are satisfied with I reckon, no nasty surprises. Three cabs and 1000w, sounds like a cool rig.

I SAID, SOUNDS LIKE A COOL RIG!!!

Dan aka Stoneboy ran 2 x 610's each side of his Puma 1000 at the Melbourne GTG. Huge volume!

My rig is nice now but when I get the Puma it's going to be even nicer.

Once again Ivan aka Classic5 is responsible for the GAS attack. :p

A leap of faith yes, but not a blind one. Like you have said, you have seen, heard and played the 1000. You will be disappointed.

Thanks Dan - just waiting now!!

Jon :poke:

Jon at Thump was really good about the to and fro as well, particularly since the GAS started in January when I had the pleasure of playing Ivan's Puma 1000. :D

Bought R. Coco's as well and a Puma bag.

Still a Puma and 2 610's :notworthy:

Why are the 900s the same price as the 500s?
