New forum exclusive demo octaver pedal from Cave Passive

Post by Aussie Mark » 29 Mar 2011, 19:48

Later this week I'm receiving a prototype of the new "Oct-UlatOr" pedal from Cave - this one does octave up or octave down - as well as the original note - and of course, needs no batteries or power supply.

Heath is very excited about this pedal, so he's given me the green light to send it around the country for forum members to try for free, just like we did with the Grunt.

If you'd like to spend a few days with the Oct-UlatOr, post in this thread, and I'll put together a list.

Don't expect much more than the quasi-ring modulator/Hendrix style octave fuzz thing that he's done before. A sub-octave in a passive device is of great technical interest, however.

Remember, the old Cave octaver removed the original note, so it was hardly practical. If this one really can do octave up (of sorts) and octave down it could be a winner, for sure. Can't wait to play with it.

What I'll do with this list of interested people is keep this open for a few more days, and then I'll close the list off and arrange it in some kind of practical geographic batting order to keep individual postage costs down as much as possible. Once I get the pedal I'll get the ball rolling.

octave up is fairly simple in concept... voltage-wise you divide the signal in two and then invert the first half and add it back to the 2nd half...woila, quasi double...

doing octave down passively...now that's a trick and a half...

I guess that's why Heath is making these things, and not you or me, Kerry.
