Hey George - where do these sit in terms of the Sadowsky product line? Are they better in spec than the Metro's or cheaper?

As far as I know they have:
NYC: hand made in NY with all finish and hardware options.
Satin: hand made in NY with fewer options
Metro: hand made in Japan
Metroexprrss: factory made in Japan.
Could you please send me some detailed pics?

Jimmy,
As Fred mentioned above. The Express are being built in one of Japan's top factories to Roger Sadowsky's requirements and standards. I got to try theses at Namm and honestly couldn't tell the difference, they felt every bit as good as the workshop Metros. The Express are just a more streamlined production instrument with limited colour options and models to simplify the build process. These are only available in the RV and MV models. You can't get a Modern, UV70 or PJ model in the Express. They still use all Sadowsky electronics and hardware and Sadowsky guarantees that every bass will weigh less than 8.9 Lbs (4Kg)....not bad!
Here's the specifications straight off the Sadowsky website:

Specifications:
Solid alder body and a morado fingerboard or a solid ash body and a maple fingerboard
Durable poly finish on the body and sleek nitro finish on the neck
Graphite strips in the neck dramatically reduce dead spots and create a more even response on every note
Classic Sadowsky Treble and Bass boost pre-amp with true bypass switch
Controls: master vol, pickup blend, treble roll-off (VTC) with pre-amp bypass, bass boost, treble boost
Sadowsky pickups, strings, and hardware
Available in 4 and 5 string vintage models
Following finishes available: black, olympic white, candy apple red, sage green metallic, ice blue metallic, and ‘59 burst
Each bass is guaranteed to weigh less than 8.9 pounds
