Advice on TV tuners for PC

Post by Petebass » 01 May 2018, 00:00

I've been using my tablet to watch sports and occasional tv shows during quiet moments at my shop. Most days it works fine. Other days, usually when my team is playing, the internet quality is poor and it keeps freezing.

So I'm toying with the idea of getting a tv tuner for my laptop that picks up free to air. Here's the catch - there is no tv Arial on the roof. So what I wanna know is if any of them work well using just the portable antenna? If so, which ones?
* 2 Stingray 5's (one heavily modded), Ibanez SR805, Ashbory, + more...
* Carvin B1500, Epifani PS1000, Ashdown Superfly amps.
* Lots of DIY neo/lightweight cabs including one made from composites http://www.ozbassforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2546

I bought a Kaiser Baas one ages ago, never worked well. You need an outdoor antenna to connect it to . The supplied indoor antenna is rubbish.

PS I bought an electric powered indoor antenna that works very well. It was a flat panel about a foot square, from Dick Smiths, sigh, I miss that place, moreso from the old old days of electronic parts and kits

Pete, I'm happy to send this up to you so you can try it out, gratis.

The rubber surrounding the dongle has gone sticky,and the startup dvd is gone but you can download the drivers etc.
It has an antenna but suggest buying an indoor one, around $60

PM me your addy and I'll post it to you

That's a very nice offer, but I've gone cold on this idea after speaking to some locals. Turns out the TV reception is below Par, and even good indoor antennas won't cut it in this region. An antenna on the roof is a must apparently. And for the amount of money that would cost me, I'll just persist with the Tablet/Wi-Fi thing for now.

yeah that is wise, I found it pretty much worthless even plugged into a roof antenna.
WIFI is here to stay
