why are we demanding a much harsher penalty than the poms got when they used lollies? They got a one game ban then they were back all nice and rosie. Some are demanding lifetime bans for all involved.
Who used bottlecaps a few years ago, wasn't it the Seth Efrikans?
I'm as disgusted as most are, more by their clumsiness and stupidity .But life bans? get real. They will get a much more severe ban than the poms got.

^ Because we hold our guys to a higher standard.

Bancroft wasn't test standard IMO and should rightfully struggle to return after whatever suspension he gets.

Warner and Smith should get 12 months, so they actually miss a couple of important series (see the link below). Six months would be a slap on the wrist IMO. 12 months would see them potentially back for the Ashes in England.

I think Warner will struggle to get back in the team at all because of his age, he was the "ring leader", his lack of control after the sledging and his form hasn't been anything special for quite a while. Warner will go and make money in the T20 game.

Smith will be back but not as skipper.

Yes, and that cultural ethic explains why so many Japies (including a certain MrChameleon) choose to make Australia their home.

It furthermore explains why we are distraught at any signs of its unravelling.

Well we can no longer say we play hard but fair!

My Cricket Australia app just sent me a notification - Smith and Warner got 12 month bans. Bancroft gets a 9 month ban. Boof Lehmann is in the clear.

Arggghhh, it gets worse. When I first saw the footage I thought the yellow thing in Bandcroft's hand was sandpaper. But everyone kept saying it was yellow tape so I went along with it.

IT WAS FRIGGIN SANDPAPER.

Now I can understand there being a bit of electrical tape lying around, but Sandpaper? Nope, that's a whole new level or premeditation because someone would have had to physically go out and buy some. IDIOTS!

Smith is gutted, as he should be. Something tells me it was Warner's doing, and Smith stupidly gave in.

Warner sooking like a baby. No sympathy.
Further they are all saying this was the only time they cheated

don't believe them. They are sorry they got caught is all

still, all previous ball tamperers got one game bans, I don't agree that we are above every other nation, why so severe?
way over the top compared to the ICC sanctions, false indignation by the media and public.

Personally I think it's because of the method. When I heard about Poms using lollies, there was underlying thought that they were trying something different, which may or may not work, and probably didn't. But sandpaper is pretty much the exact thing the ball tampering rules were introduced to prevent because we KNOW it works.

Then there's the gutlessness of it all - fancy making a newcomer to the team do your dirty work for you. Should Bancroft have said no? Yes, and he probably did once, maybe twice. But with your spot on the team uncertain, and the leadership group pressing you do participate, I think a lot of people would have done what Bancroft did for fear of losing their spot in the team. That just ads another level of despicable to it.

And then there's the deterrent factor. These piddly little slaps on the wrist that others have received would no doubt have played a part in the unravelling of the plan. The potential gain outweighed the likely punishment. At some point you have to draw a line and say "Right then, no more! Heavy penalties! Think about that before doing something stupid". Now is the perfect time to set a new precedent.

Lehman had to go coz he allowed Warner off the leash and it's his responsibility in the end. Staggering that CA thinks we will believe that not one bowler knew of this, like they didn't notice the ball being tampered with. And that this was the only time it happened....remember those Starc overs? 3 wickets in one over?
Actually, Pete, I've just realised why you are right, coz now we are doubting EVERY good bowling performance by this team.......

Smith reminds me of schoolboys whose bad behavior often enabled and excused by parents. Fancy bringing dad to front the media - I guess he's the grown up in Smith's life.
