I was looking at the ABM individual saddles with the hipshot head piece. That’s what I used with the my 7 string guitar.

Re: Sneaky's random builds log
Working on some truss rod templates. Plan is to buy some Perspex and make some clear routing templates for each of the different type of truss rods to make it easier.
Took three try’s to get it where I was happy with the fit and to add the flare for the wheel

Actual bass building !!!!
This is the bit I love shaping and testing the feel against your body. Rinse and repeat until it fits comfortably.
The routing close to final thickness ... this is the what did I do and is it recoverable.

Starting to soften the side ... still panicked

Deciding I’m going to keep some thickness for a small control cavity

Marking with a pencil and sanding high spots

This was taking ages so I used a grinder with a flap disk to do the worst of it. Can’t tell you how careful you need to be and I also used a finishing sander with 40grit. I went between the radius sanding block and finishing sander until I was done or at least 90%

The cavity does get softened

Arm bevel

This is going to seem weird but when I held it to my body I realised it’s always on an angle so you have just the edge against your leg. So it’s a leg bevel so you have full body width when your sitting

Back of the body is almost done. It will be refined

Out of interest that’s about 2 1/2 hours worth of work. Last time I did this only with the radius sanding block that was over 10 hrs
Top will probably get done on the weekend

Love the contour work you do Pete. It's something I'd like to try one day.
2.5 hrs vs 10......that's a huge difference

Time and patience.... you’ve definitely got the second one squared away. Should knock up a body out of pine or something cheap and easy to work with to practice on.

Love the colour variation of the wood Pete. It reminds me a bit of my old Warwick.....it's gonna look fantastic

Re: Sneaky's random builds log
There comes a point where you have to be realistic about your capabilities for whatever the reason or limitations
Been thinking about this a lot lately as my current physical limitations mean I’m screwing up more stuff than getting right.
I love playing but I’ve had to pretty much give that up and I’m hugely frustrated at not being able to build to a quality I’m happy with so I don’t really see any options in the short term.
I’m trying to get through my current builds best I can and then I’m calling it done.
Maybe I’ll try again next year after my surgery but I’m told the damage is done so I’m not to expect improvement. Crossing my fingers
On the plus side I can take up Irish dancing ... don’t need my hand for that

You can only do what you can do. Putting stuff aside till later isn’t a bad thing. You’ve got lots of mates here thinking of you and wishing for a speedy recovery.

Re: Sneaky's random builds log
Thanks, things will work out as they tend to do.
Been thinking about this for a while and it came to a head for me tonight when I did some dry runs routing a truss rod channel on some scrap ... after the fourth attempt I thought this is ridiculous. Hence the post

Hi Pete,
You’re not getting away that easily. First of all sorry to hear that things got worse rather than improve. But that’s not enough reason to throw out the baby with the bath water. Rest up, get the surgery done, and then see where you’re at.
The lutherie forum definitely needs you - the more quirky out-of-the-box threads the better, and you always have great comments and suggestions.
Hang in there!
Regards,
Michael

I’ll linger around for sure I enjoy watching the builds come together about as much as I do building my own.drbass wrote: ↑17 May 2018, 12:32Hi Pete,
