For me it was taking the clanky stainless steel rounds of my new TBird and putting some lovely Fender pure nickel rounds on it.

For me it was surviving a late call up to fill in for a 4 hour gig.
Among a host of other time related sinks working against me, I haven't played 4 sets in about 2 or 3 years, I forgot how much stamina/fitness is required!

I got there though, the rest of the band was happy, had a great audience - joy.

Playing with a really great bass player. Doesn't happen as often as I'd like, but yesterday David1234 and myself (on guitar/vox) were rostered on at church together. Man, it's so nice to have someone grooving and nailing things down underneath your guitar parts. Allowed me to just relax and work at being really musical. That is joy.

nice one cleary, 4 sets, ugh. So far our gigs have been one set on multi band bills. Got one at the Gov on our own and at the Exeter in the City. Time to write some up tempo originals to replace the slower ones, we have a month :)

II FINALLY get all the "P bass, Flats, done" comments :)

Four sets is normal for cover bands in my experience. Yes, it is a struggle some nights.

no covers, all original songs only.

and we are getting paid :)

a coverband asking to play with us was kindly told that we play originals only

"oh yeah, how much you get for playing "originals""?

I told him how much, and that they were indeed all "originals" and he said I was narky lol

nothing against cover bands, but why the hate on original bands? jealousy I expect,we were getting more than his coverband was for playing all originals. he created the butt hurt not I :)

Being Adelaide, the hate is probably because you didn't go to the right school. It's the only place in Australia where anyone bothers to ask that question within the first 2 minutes of being introduced.

I hope you haven't interpreted my comment as being in any way against originals bands. I was referring to Cleary's post. I was simply stating a fact as I see it and making the comment that four hours is a struggle some nights for me- I am 61 in about a months time.

no man I took your comment for what is was, a statement that cover bands do 4 sets usually :)

4 sets of covers or 4 sets of originals is the same thing....bloody hard work, guv :)

The original scene here is now usually 3 bands sharing a gig. this way we only have to each do one set of our best originals. No fillers or so-so songs. We hopefully each bring a share of the audience too. of course, any money gets split three ways, but to get a following this is the best way to get it going
