Saw John Couger Mellencamp last night

For a 57 year old he sure still rocks hard.
He had me singing along to most of his songs.

I love Mellancamp...have been a fan for YARS and YARS...

is Kenny Aronoff still playing skins for him?...
Kenny is one of my all time fav drummers, too...he has a very simple approach to playing...for Kenny, it's all about where that 2 and 4 come in...he has complete control of the feel of the tune...a real master...

John is one of THE best rockers to ever come out of America...

About 15 years ago, Kenny did some drum clinics around Australia in conjunction with a tour here. One of my mates went to one and he said it was awesome! But I'll never forget how the clinic started. Kenny said "Hi and thanks for coming. Today I want to try and increase your drumming "vocabulary"." Some genius at the back calls out "What's that?" :)

Don't be too harsh - I imagine it's unlikely drummers would ever hear the word "vocabulary" when they're delivering pizzas.

One big, big, shiny, shiny double bass.
What looked like a lakland 5 string with what looked like a humbucker and single coil pickups.
And some kind of fretless 5 string - could aslo have been a lakland but he only used it a few times.

He was solid, no fancy stuff. Any thing clever happened down low so he didn't hit any higher notes at all. He was very unpretentious, just did his job well. Can't remember his name.

Couldn't see his amps from my vantage point way, way, way up the back. If I can I will download my 'view' of the stage. Thank goodness for the large screens!
