Anyone follow NHL?

Post by Lukas86 » 06 Mar 2012, 21:14

Im hooked on this sport ever since visiting canada and the U.S. I figure we have a few canucks' and yanks on this forum, anyone into hockey?

if so, thoughts on...Nashville a serious threat? Crosby coming back this season? Stamkos v Malkin v Lundqvist for MVP/Hart trophy? Can the Rangers win the stanley cup? and of course Rick Nash..

I hate the Rangers with a PASSION! But yes, they are most definitely capable of taking the Stanley Cup.

I'm a dead set Penguins fan.

I know a lot of people hate the rangers. Is it a pennsylvania thing, because I know flyers fans hate them as well.
Pens look sharp from what I've seen in highlights this year. Good goalie is key and you have one in fluery, so should go a long way.
I'm a blackhawks fan btw, hope you don't hate us :/

Top 3 most loathed by me:
1) Rangers
2) Capitals
3) Avalanche (dead heat here :)

Top 3 most loved by me:
1) Penguins
2) Maple Leafs
3) Canadiens

I actually don’t hate the Flyers...mostly because the Penguins have usually been able to handle them.
The mark of Penguins winning a Stanley Cup always seems to hinge around them getting past the Capitals, hence my loathing.
I hate the Avalanche...just hate them for no other reason than I can.
The Rangers, well they’re just a bunch of bums! LOL

I respect the Blackhawks, and I respect the Bruins...but I dislike both clubs... because, again, I can. :)

I can't speak for all rangers fans, and don't want to tarnish them, but I remember when I was in NYC getting the vibe that a lot of ranger fans are new york businessmen type people who have absolutely no idea about the sport, but get tickets/invited to games by bosses and other corporations. For that area, the islanders and devils seem to have more genuine hockey fans.
I can't stand the canucks either, something about vancouver and its fans annoy me.
Similarly I dislike detroit, as a divisional rival to the blackhawks, but respect them for their history and how well run their organisation is..the wings never seem to bottom out.

Then there are about 10 teams I am indifferent to (and often forget them) like carolina, florida, winnipeg, ducks, avalanche, ottawa, columbus.

I completely disagree with the no-snow no-team philosophy. Ice hockey is played INDOORS... it doesn’t snow indoors.
I think this sentiment stems from the mass exodus of teams in the 90’s from Canada to warmer regions in the US, such as Arizona and Florida... but this is where the money is, where the population is...it’s great for hockey, IMO.
With the availability of ice rinks these days, there should be hockey teams EVERYWHERE! I’m waiting for the Arabian Hockey League :D

Wasn't the initial idea of having teams in warm weather states to attract the canadian and northeastern american retirees who miss hockey?
From what I understand a lot of older canadians have houses in florida, arizona & california where they will spend a few months during the winter.
Hence, tampa, florida, phoenix, san jose, LA, ducks.

I just listened to an espn hockey podcast, cities in the mix for expansion teams in a few years are Kansas City, Seattle, Saskatoon and Las Vegas. I could see seattle and saskatoon getting a real following and doing well, but KC and Vegas?

Why did the nordiques get moved, its hard to fathom hockey failing in quebec? (but then again, the North Stars got moved as well).
