Re: Rant Thread !
OK I'm going to rant about the NRL coaching saga at Penrith. I for the life of me can't believe this much drama can happen just 4 weeks out from the semi-finals, to a team that is only one win away from being in the top 4. Then there's the flow on effect with Tigers supporters (including me) all sweating on the fact their coach and messiah has been tabled an offer to coach at Penrith, despite him being contracted to the Tigers. Contracts are now officially a joke! And the guy is considering it despite being unceremoniously dumped by Penrith in 2005? Who goes back to work for a boss that treated them like that?

It’s all about keeping Nathan Cleary. They think the best way is to buy his Dad as coach.
It would be hilarious if Cleary made his signing conditional on Gus leaving the ‘Riff.

I’m sick of being told I’m too qualified for jobs with a better lifestyle choice. How do you dumb down a resume?

Re: Rant Thread !
The practice this week seems to be to tailor your resume to the position you're going for, and cut out anything that might be distracting to the person doing the short listing, or irreverent for the position. The goal is to have a single sheet of details so that the person sorting through them doesn't have to face anything more prolix than a tweet.
What you do with those gaps is anyone's guess really, I suppose you could just tell them that you working in another industry or studying, caring for a family member, or in prison or something.

Overqualified doesn’t exist. This demonstrates to me they are small minded and easily threatened managers, and do you really want to work for them?
Last year I hired someone because they were ‘overqualified’ and it’s working out great.

Thanks Eric. I've been told by recruiters that my resume is tight and focused. It's hard to take out any more stuff from my resume when I have been in so few jobs. I was 6 years in this last one, two with two years because they were project specific and then 14 years with the company before that. I've packed the important stuff into the first paragraph and bolded up the jobs I have had for quick scanning. Since I am shooting for jobs that are a level or two below where I was I can't hide 10 years of being a manager of the people who worked what I want to do without compromise.eric wrote: ↑21 Aug 2018, 23:03The practice this week seems to be to tailor your resume to the position you're going for, and cut out anything that might be distracting to the person doing the short listing, or irreverent for the position. And yes Nick if somebody took me on for one of these roles they'd get a bargain! Unfortunately they are not giving me the chance to find out they are small minded. Catch 22 there. But still I keep looking and sending out the resume' and cover letters, following up with phone calls etc.
Wrong thing for a rant thread but I have to say It's not all doom and gloom though. I got a decent redundancy and haven't spent all of it yet. Plus I have a small bit of piece work currently fixing up code for a friend who's very busy. That might go somewhere but regardless it's good to be useful. I've also got my umpiring and signed up for umpiring school kids t-ball etc. that's lots of fun and keeps the pocket money rolling in to pay for the bass building habit.

Re: Rant Thread !
Explain it clearly in the cover letter. Spell it out so the recruiter understands exactly why you're applying for a job that seems lower than your experience and quals. Make it compelling so there's no grey area in the explanation that makes them second guess your reasons. Good luck with your job search mate
