It finally happened

Post by BazzBass » 19 Apr 2018, 00:52

Tonight, watching a music act on TV

Ooh female bassist, playing a P into a Hughes and Kettner amp

ooh Sennheiser overheads on the drums

ooh Gretsch guitar, into a Fender twin amp

mic'd with two mics in an x-y pattern, never seen that

and then the song was over, didn't listen to any of it

I've become a gear geek :(

Thanks, OzBass forum, I think :)

Nah you're not a gear geek till you can tell what strings were on the bass. But yes I'm the guy who, when he goes at all, buys tickets behind the sound desk at concerts to what the boys do their thing so I know where you're coming from.

Didn't you hate it when they'd fake radio mikes by putting a piece of wire out the back of a standard xlr connector back in the day? Or when the band was playing away madly with no power cords or leads attached at all?

I lament they way they never film the bass player in a way that you can work out what bass s/he's playing (other than the obvious types).
Fender '78 Precision, Squier CV Jazz, Maton JBIV, Ibanez SR405, G&L Tribute SB2, Ashbory and Markbass CMD121P, Fender Rumble V# 12" cab, GK 400RB, No-name 4x10 cab
funKtus, Samurai Trash, Exploding Happiness, Night Radio (no longer).

I tend to look at what gear bands are playing. But I have to say that the list if gear you identify in the OP were all a bit meh.

I think I've told this story before. After we'd been married a couple of years, my wife was visiting her brother's share house and that had one of the music channels on. A Bob Marley clip came on and at the same time her brother and his mates were saying "Nice shirt:, she said "Nice Les Paul". She then needed to explain that a Les Paul was a guitar. She thought it was hysterical. :rolf:

The Stranglers took it to a new level in the 80's on 'Top of the Pops' - they appeared on stage after swapping instruments and played the song out with no mention afterwards of something odd going on....
