Falcon Heavy, Tesla Roadster and WA

Post by drbass » 07 Feb 2018, 11:29

Not sure who's interested in rocketry and space stuff but here goes.

This morning SpaceX successfully launched a Falcon Heavy and put a Tesla Roadster into a parking orbit (PUN) for a couple of hours before attempting a final burn to send it on a trajectory that'll intersect Mars orbit. Anyway, happened to take a screen shot of the life feed of "Spaceman" cruising the WA side of Australia.

Michael

it was stuff that dream are made of. I was glued to the screen, especially when the two boosters came in for a simultaneous vertical landing, very thunderbirds-y

Mars was never the target (even if the media say so and call the mission a failure).

The goal was to get on a trajectory that takes the payload (in this case the Roadster) on a course that intersects the Mars orbit. Ultimately the decision was made to have a “fuel depletion burn” instead of a controlled engine shut-off to see what is possible with the upper second stage.

I think he's got a lot more debt than money. He does seem to have some impressive achievements though. That car in space is going to be iconic.

Ummm, yeah. Only in the same sense as this though I reckon. Just a very expensive publicity stunt.
