Who got a Christmas bass?

Post by packrat » 25 Dec 2017, 11:15

Felicitations of the season. You’ve likely already had to deal with various gifting traditions today, but who has gifted themselves a new bass?

I’m traveling to visit family for the break and bassless (apart from a u-bass), picked up a secondhand Spector NS-95 which needed a cleanup and new strings and will stay here for future travel.

I'd want to have an emergency every day. I do remember appreciating those basses back when they were in the shops.

No xmas bass but Santa left me a nice K&M Memphis Pro Stand. Coincidentally it’s just after my second Hercules POS fell apart.

Way to go Santa!

Well I found out I get to keep all my basses. The ex wife is being quite reasonable with separation discussions. That feels like a bit of a Xmas present.

No, it's which Hercules stands fell apart on me. Two down so far, and a third is going any minute now but will be making new friends in the bin before it happens.

Firstly all the plastic fittings turn into sticky rubbery goop. At that point the stand basically can't be handled without gloves if you intend to play within the next few hours. That's ok if you're using them at home I guess. Anyway, shortly after, the little nib inside which locks into the positioning holes snaps off and it collapses. If you're in luck it collapses while your guitar is still in your hand (1). If not it happens just as you let go of the guitar and it slides down to crack the endpin into the floor (2). Stand three currently has a thick pad of rubber under it, although it will shortly be going in the bin anyway. I've found exactly the same thing happen with a Hercules mic stand at a gig recently where I had to use someone else's gear.

I suppose in this day and age some people are probably ok with getting 2 - 3 years out of a stand, but my band has stands that have done 2 - 4 gigs a week for nearly 20 years and are still fine.

Anyway, this should have been in the "Rant" thread sorry :)

Pedals are awesome, of course it does. This bass was worth only about a new nice pedal.

I got a Road worn p-bass from the most amazing partner I’ve ever had, I mentioned to her once three months ago that I didn’t have a precision and this turned up under the Christmas tree
