of course, it's more complicated in Melbourne.

You need to take a beaker, for the hot water, another beaker for the hot milk, a small cup for the espresso shot,a mug to mix them in, and a board to place all the beakers on.

My old Sunbeam cafe Crema finally died the other week. Upgraded to a Breville Dual Boiller - so far this thing is fantastic. Got all the features I was after - measured shots, steam and pull shots at the same time. Also got it for a great price brand new with 5 year extended warranty (I am expecting it to breakdown in this time as it is still a consumer machine).

My crappy little machine is still doing quite well, just feed it decent beans (Padre for me) and it punches well above it’s weight. Not incredible long blacks but passable. I’ve also noticed Padre has teamed up with Pod and Parcel to make decent coffee available in pod form, which I chucked into the pod machine at work and hey, not terrible, about on par with an average cafe.

Side bar, what is with freeze dried coffee costing more per kg than so called boutique local roasted single origin coffee? My father in law insists so I went to the local supermarket and goddamn it’s expensive!

Example
$95 per kg

$60 per kg

Strings: Fender, Custom, Framus, Warwick
Knobs: Mesa, MarkBass
Cones: Baer
Patch: TC Electronic, Aguilar

you can make a lot more coffee with a kg of the freeze dried stuff compared to the beans.

if you are using a dose of 20g. that only makes 10 cups per 200 grams.
however, 190g of the freeze dried stuff makes up to 105! link below for reference.

Huh, so half a gram per cup (105 cups / 198g) which I assume is a teaspoon? Expand that out to a kilo at a claimed 1,885 cups and obviously they have a stake in claiming high volume. Half a gram ain't very strong, certainly not 20g equivalent. I would compare that to a half shot, half 7g is 3.5g which for a kilo of beans makes 285 cups. Even a full shot works out at 142 cups. I'm not buying it (literally or figuratively)!

You have to remember... Americans..... lol

Whats the likelihood of finding a 2 year old freeze dried tin of coffee in someones home. Compared to a bag of beans? haha.

I don't touch the stuff either :)

My understanding is that the features of the
machine and quality of the coffee produced is excellent. Just don't expect it to last 10+ years like an Italian machine.

So far I am in love with this machine.

^Very true, they're very capable machines.
I replaced my Rancilio Silvia after 10 years with a Rocket Giotto (Silvia is still going strong though.. gave it to my son)
My Mazzer grinder will still be around with the cockroaches... beyond bullet-proof.
