did anyone read about Mitch Marsh? Because Smiffy called Paine up to the stumps to Mitch because he was bowling slow speeds, Mitch got in a huff and texted Smiffy that he doesn't want to bowl anymore in this match. Good, finish this game and pack your bags, you should never have played anyway. Big score last match or not. As a bowler he is useless anyway so how can he be an all-rounder?
Hadn't seen that.
What I did see was Smith dropping Cook with Payne at the stumps. Very costly- probably will cost the game. Commentators making lots of excuses that he was unsighted because the keeper was up at the stumps. I hear Clarke talking and it is all blabla :blah:
Agreed, but since when is 130km too slow? McGrath was 130 and look how many wickets he took.

Keeping at the stumps for a fast medium bowler is not easy! Gilly was magnificent at it. Most humans would struggle.

Mitch (allegedly) said he is miffed at not being in the 'fast bowler cartel"

Hats off to Alistair Cook for 244 not out. The highest score at the MCG for carrying his bat to the end (an opening batter being the only one not out).

KP just said on the BBL that Cook can complete the whole beep test and keep going. Doesn't break a sweat.

Smith also had gastro all day, so not at his best in the field - he also dropped that chance at square leg off Cook. Which reminds me - I was going to ask who was 12th man or sub fielder given Handscome was released for Big Bash duty - was it Sayers?

Actually, it is the ONLY time it's been done at the MCG in a Test, and is the highest EVER in Tests at any ground

Bancroft gone.
Watching him closely this morning. Not convinced.
5th test certainly is an opportunity to play around with the lineup. Would you bring Renshaw back, or open with S.Marsh?

Is Khawaja at risk too?

I think they will rest Cummins and play a spinner - let's hope it is Swepson. Unlikely to be O'Keefe given he didn't even bowl in the Big Bash last night (but had a chance to win the game with the bat).

All good questions.
I guess they should be looking at building a batting lineup.
Not sure what bringing in Renshaw for one test achieves, unless they have him in mind for the longer term or want to give Bancroft a very strong message to improve his game or else...
Would opening with Marsh result in a recall of Handscomb, who looked all at sea?
I think Khawaja could be at risk.
I think we have problems in a couple of batting spots which are being papered over to an extent by Smith's results.
Bancroft's faults in technique worry me- he needs to fix them.

Unfortunately for England, Cook fired in a test that didn't count.

The spinner has been announced - Ashton Agar joins the squad for Sydney.

Thats the only team change.

4 down 17 in front. Smith gets out we could be in real trouble.

I hardly saw any of this test. Record breaking week at the Ice Cream shop so I can't really complain. But if Cook goes to Sydney and falls cheaply to Starc again, can Starc officially start calling him his bunny?

Glad the shop is doing well!
