I think Bancroft might struggle to retain his spot if runs don't flow at Lords....
Otherwise, I think Siddle may be the only one who'll likely lose his spot to someone like Haze or Stark.

I was surprised at both those selections.
I watched most of this test. Siddle played well in this game.
Bancroft looked out of his depth, as usual IMO.

He really did, didn't he? I was quite impressed TBH, I didn't think he still had that much pace. He looked like he should have snared a few wickets more than he did too.

I have it on good authority that if they do drop Siddle, it will be for Hazelwood. The selectors see them two as the economical ones, and they see Starc and Pattinson as the wicket takers who can leak runs. So if Starc is going to be back in the team, it will be Pattinson who gets the chop.

But it's all mute - we won. And our selectors don't often change a winning team. Even if it was because of the efforts of one player............ Smithy!

they're saying Pattinson is out, probably saving him for the rest of the series. So Starc in for him seems the best bet. Starc rips through the tail, the Pom tail won't last long if he is in the team.

Yes Payne said it's because Pattinson can be injury prone so they are babying him when possible.

They went with Hazelwood. I guess it's a good problem to have so many good bowlers to choose from but imagine being Mitchell Starc right now. What would be going through his head? I can't believe our best bowler isn't being picked!

And if anything, out batting needs tinkering with, not the bowling. We still look fragile to me and are relying too much on Steve Smith.

Yep.

I wonder whether the time has come for Warner as a Test player. His eye may be failing him- he looks dreadful. Almost as bad as Bancroft. How does a guy get so far with a technique as flawed as Bancroft's.

coach's pet

should not have been brought back, just because he had a good season......in DIV 2 county cricket lol

Bancroft and Siddle, Lamger's downfall if he continues to favour his mates

I'm not feeling Langers love for Siddle. He is a battler at best. He is not and never was better than Starc AND Hazlewood.

I don't know. I see them as very different. I think it is a bit of an insult to Siddle to lump him with Bancroft. I am not a Siddle fan but.......
Siddle has bowled well and has a good test record of 214 wickets ( Bancroft doesn't have a test record to speak of - around 27 or there abouts). Siddle, in this series, has bowled off stump or there abouts and nibbling away- a bit like McGrath, but not as tall and bouncy. He has looked like taking wickets. Starc errs down the leg a bit too much. Good bowler but- he needs more accuracy IMHO. I think it is a close call.
Bancroft has batted poorly. His selection is the product of the endless pressure from the WA mafia. As soon as he got in the soup, they said; "We will stick by him" and they have. They made it plain they wanted him back in the test team. Him and Gilly had the famous- it's all Warner's fault I/V. He is back despite not being as good as number of other openers- honestly, last night I was embarrassed for him- HE HAD NO IDEA.
I honestly wonder how much Bancroft's presence is putting Warner off. Test record- 21 X 100's, 29 X 50s, Av. 47.5. I can tell you, it would be putting me off opening with him. I would be thinking .....I can't trust this flea.

Not having a go...just what I think.
