Eminar P606... information wanted

Post by bobbybdazzler » 11 Aug 2018, 11:10

Hi all
I walked into the local Cash Converters and stumbled upon this, they had a crazy low price on it which I promptly bartered down by another 25%. I noticed the power tubes had been replaced by local tube guru Alan Kelly and I just had to buy it.
It’s a 1970’s P606 with 6 output valves, no idea of the wattage but from the tiny amount of information on the Oz valve amp site it could be either 120/150/200watt.
Sound wise it’s right up there in the ball park of my AD200 and SVT2PRO. Very, very nice indeed.
I’d love any more information on this beast if anyone has any.

So you took us all seriously when we said you couldn’t have too many amps then, nice. Definitely some retro appeal! No info from me sorry.

I had the 5 channel version of this. GREAT sounding amp. Mine was "supposed " to be a PA, so, I s'pose it probably came with 2 'tower' type cabs.
Mine had same 6 X 6CA7 power tubes. Which, afaik, are similar to EL34's but handle higher plate voltages etc etc... of this, I know very little except that mine burnt out 6xEL34's very quickly.
Was a wicked fireworks display that was! :hyper:
I ended up getting 6 JJKT77's which worked very nicely.

Eminar make great smoke machines, our keyboardist thought sticking a screwdriver into the back of the chassis would fix it, sure did, fixed it for good lol

I also love that when you compare the sound of this to other amps it’s not from memory you actually just played them side by side.

Correct, I had a bass amp shootout last night , all three shook the foundations on top of the 8x10.

I have a mate who has a very similar amp, his has a quad of EL34's for approx. 100w. These old amps I'm told have over-engineered iron, and a very high plate voltages, so 100w might be a conservative estimate.
