Weird Markbass issue.

Post by moik » 27 May 2018, 17:35

At a gig last night my Markbass CMD 102P shat itself.
Barely any volume. And what was coming out was a weak farty sound.
Swapped guitar lead. Power lead. Pushed any button I could find.
Drummer says “nah yeah man. Blown speaker”
Finished the gig running through the PA listening to myself through the wedges. Ugh.

Tried it this morning. Same.
Stuck my ear against the grille trying to work out which speaker and realised they were both doing the same. Weird.
Sat my spare head on top and plugged the cab wire into it. Perfect.
So the LMII head is fried?

Tried it again this arv. Perfect.
Been playing it all afternoon and can’t fault it.

Any clues?

So when you tried it again, it was with a different head or with the integrated head? If it still isn’t working with the integrated head then yeah, the head has failed. Why? Don’t know. I assume it still powers on? Try see if the preamp still works

No it’s working perfectly with integrated combo head.

Maybe corrosion in output plug? When you unplugged and re-plugged the speaker cable it maybe cleaned it.

Plug a short lead into the fx send/ return. See if any difference

Could be a short in the lead or connector as well.

I’m thinking this may be it.

But won't fix this one, this series of Markbass doesn't have a switch in the plug.
