NWAD - Ampeg pf500

Started a new job two weeks back. On Sunday I played with the evening band for the first time. The church has an Aggie 4x10 and a pf500 a past member donated. Looking for a few tips on getting the most out of the Ampeg. Anyone here had one of these?

Yeh - I love the lots of low on them. I run it (or a B2-RE) flat just about all the time, low-ish volume, no pedal intervening. So maybe I'm not much help.... :rolleyes
B2-RE has same sound signature, but the EQ options are different.

I use a 7Pro which is similar in the EQ layout.
My tip would be - dont engage the ultra low - and it'll be the same to use as any other amp.

Ok, that's interesting, coz I had ultra low engaged. What's the issue with ultra low?

Btw, I found the amp mid heavy.

The ultra low is more a mid cut. In my opinion, it sucks all the punch out of ur tone when playing live.
Sounds good in the bedroom/ playing alone tho

Ultra low is the bedroom tone - not for a live environment ( IME )

Try this :- ( hoping the Aggie is a 4 ohm cab to get the most of of the head ) :-

Set all knobs to 9 o'clock.
With frequency selector set at position 3.
And gain at 12 o'clock. Volume as required of course.

Play your open E string and with your other hand slowly bring up the bass to where you want it to sound.
Then play your open G sting and do the same thing with the Midrange knob.
Then play G string again and do the same thing.
This should give you the sound you want - let your ears adjust to this setting for a day or two.
NOTE - if you want a slightly smoother tone - try frequency knob at position #2.

I play with Labella flats tho - and bass is rarely past noon, midrange knob rarely goes past 10 o,clock and treble varies, but never goes past noon.

See how you go mate.

I didn’t complete one line properly, should have read:-
Play G string again and do the same thing with the treble knob.

Another question. I tried to dial in some distortion this morning at church. I wound the gain up along way. The red light told me I hitting the 'peak' almost constantly. Is this a bad thing? The sound was fatter, but I was worried I was going to damage the amp. Thoughts?

Not much about possible damage - I'd guess that the input circuit would run hotter, but should be designed to easily dissipate since it is not a power stage? Ie, power stages will invoke the fan (more) if overheating.
Open to other thoughts.
