MXR M80 DI+ Distortion??

Post by stonecoldbass » 06 Dec 2018, 14:05

I really like my M80 distortion sound but wonder if I can get it in a smaller box for my mini pedalboard. I've checked out all the other MXR bass dirt pedals but nothing seems to be exactly the same apart from the Bass Overdrive, but that's an overdrive and doesn't seem to go as 'gain-y' as the M80 distortion. Does anyone know if you can get the M80 distortion in a single pedal format?
Thoughts??

I cant actually help you but good to see im not the only who liked it. The distortion on that pre-amp cops a bit of flack, but i didnt mind it when i had it.

Me too! So many people bag it out, but I feel like in a blind test against some other 'popular' pedals, it would favour quite well, it also works great with other pedals.

I have loved mine for over 15 years now. For me it is a DI and grit, nothing more. I don't use it as an EQ as such, only because if there is one limitation of the pedal, it is that the clean and dirty tones aren't independent. So the dirty tone I like doesn't sound how I would like it to when distortion is not engaged. When I have used it as a tone manager though it has been great.

DG VMT, just sayin.

the M80 falls down coz of the stupid scooping. Who can't dial in a scoop if given 3 tone knobs, why have it baked in FFS

I'll be selling my M80 if anyone wants it. Selling all my MXR pedals.

Yeah that is a problem with the M80. They are due for an M80v2.

Pilbara, yes two of them... no don't need two. Well, maybe. Just so I can have one each on my two boards.

Ironically, I'm not a fan of the OD on it either, but the Zoom B3 has a clone of the M80 on it, and you can engage the OD without the mid scoop, and in my opinion it's the best OD on the B3! A v2 of this pedal with that feature would be a massive leap forward.

Ah yes, the old MS60B of course! I used to have one on my old board that got stolen, might be the sensible option.
Thanks!
