Empress Compressor vs TC Spectracomp

Post by Rocksolid » 18 Sep 2018, 00:18

Polar opposites of the spectrum when it comes to real estate on your pedal board, and the amount of control knobs. Obviously with the Tone print software, the options for control of the Spectracomp are actually far greater.

I'm considering moving my Empress off my Nano board for a Spectracomp so I can get something else on that board also.

I really like the Empress. Great control, works well, super quiet. I'm wary of having to plug something in on the Spectracomp to change things, you can't do it on the fly.

Has anyone used both of these, and if so, Can you give me your thoughts/opinions?

Thanks

I haven’t used the Empress, but the presets on the spectracomp get the job done. You can also tweak kinda on the fly using the app on your phone too. Can’t be beat for value and size.

They are both good pedals, the Empress is a fantastic bass compressor and the spectracomp does a bunch of things very well too. Curious how often you need to change your compressor's settings on the fly anyway? I pretty much set my compressor at the start and leave it as is, the only tweaking would be on/off.

I have a tendancy to dig in harder as the gig goes on, so backing off threshold is common.

Steve, you only have to hold your phone to your pickups to change presets :)

I have only used the default preset on mine,I just left the one knob at noon and it sounds great. it does boost the gain a bit from unity, but it is always on so no biggie.

Lots of different presets to try. You can even assign the one knob to any parameter you choose, pretty cool. I have not delved into different presets yet.

And yeah, takes up little room on my board, allowing me to add the micro MXR Phaser :)

There is one knob, which I assume adjusts the level of compression, so you can vary that on the fly. The presets vary the colour/tone or whatever to your sound. I have one and I just set and forget.

No, you can connect to your PC via USB and assign the knob to ANY parameter you choose :)

VERY HANDY , especially for Steve where he only needs to adjust the Threshold ;)

I'll have to learn how to do that. :)

With the TC electronic pedal. Remember to move your tuner pedal to the end of your chain so it mutes the weird modem sound to the amp/desk.
