Lakland Hanson VS Bartolini

Post by TAL » 18 Sep 2018, 14:19

Lakland 5502
I own both a Lakland/Hanson electronics equipped and a Bartonlini equipped 5502, with Rosewood necks.
They are both superb basses but I am thinking one of them has to go.
But I cant decide which one.
Is there a model that is more sought after?
I love the sound of Bartolini slightly extended tonal range but the Lakland/Hanson model has possibly a more authentic Jazz tone with a strong fundamental sound.

I have no idea if one would be more sought after than the other. One thing for sure though, that's a fabulous problem you have right there :) Nice basses!

I have a 55-94 with Bartolini preamp/pups and a 44-94 with the Lakland preamp/pups.

The bart setup is more sought after and has higher trade value (at least in the US Laklands) Some of this is because of little details though, such as countersunk tuners on the headstock on the older Laklands, and the story behind where the BEM boards came from - I am not so sure it is because of the bart electronics.

Personally though - I gig a lot more with the 44-94 as I find the sound easier to dial into the mix. They have a very different sound signature... Ultimately I'd suggest you keep the bass that you like most. Value with the 55-02s is more in what you enjoy playing rather than what the trade value is, as I dont think people care all that much with the skyline lakkies...
Fodera Monarch Custom Deluxe 5, Lakland USA 55-94, Lakland USA 44-94, Rickenbacker 4001, Fender USA P Special, G&L L2500, Fender USA Jazz Fretless, Heavy Relic P Bass, 70s Fender/East Jazz, Fender 62RI CIJ Jazz, Fender Kingsman, 10 more...
