NBD - upgraded jazz bass

Post by specitim » 29 Aug 2018, 14:19

Recently have been gassing for a white bass. After several months of searching, found a lovely white fender jazz for a good price. It had been neglected for about 10 years and needed some attention, great because I was looking for a mod platform. Neck was straight, preamp sounded pretty ordinary but I had heard the suhr pickups (note the single poles) were quality so I decided to do some upgrades.

Picked up a John East deluxe preamp from the UK, a new black pickguard (previous was red), a badass bridge that I had been saving, and a few bits and pieces from other projects. Result below! She has a beautiful thump and great sustain, the JE preamp is absolutely fantastic cannot recommend more highly.

Nice! I have the same GAS, but with less funds :rolf: . Ideally I'd love a semi-transparent white where you can see the grain underneath, but white / tort has always been my fave jazz colour.
I also have a JE pre in a jazz of mine and I agreed, amazing sound, really flexible

I love Olympic white, (especially when it's a little transparent) once it ages a bit it looks amazing
