oh, if i do have a complaint, is that the jack is recessed just enough that you cant use a 90deg angle jack

I bought one too, a 4 string. I am absolutely loving it. Im finding it incredibly comfortable to play. It just feels so right in my hands. Like you said, it sounds great with the eq flat before you start messing around with it. Mine has the same combinations of top wood and fretboard as yours. Ive always liked natural wood basses so im loving the look of this. I took it to a rehearsal tonight - just a sit down, pit orchestra musical theatre show. Really enjoyed playing it. Its coming out with me to the gigs tomorrow and Friday too.

I managed to "fix" the 90 deg jack issue

If you take out the jack cup, unscrew that from the jack, take off the nut and washer that's left on and screw the cup back onto the jack it provides the clearance to use 90 deg leads

I'd love to know a little more about how the headstock is fitted to the top of the neck. It is obviously an entirely different piece of timber, rather than an extension of the neck. I'd like a bit of detail on how it is joined.

I suspect that there is a dovetail involved coming from that triangular section, and the headstock is slotted onto it, but since it's a blind join, I couldn't say for sure.

I had an opportunity to meet Neil at his home and play the prototype. It had some interesting switching options to work out what the final sound was going to be like.

He definitely put a huge amount of effort into the pickup placement, wiring options and overall tone.

And on top of that he’s just a very nice guy who was happy to talk building with a hack like me
