Thanks everyone,

That started more discussion than I anticipated and all gold - especially "pot-hole"!

I have to say it is astonishing that an instrument of any kind should have a "blemish" such as this on it. It is totally unnecessary. I wonder what Flea thinks?
Gear: Fender, Status-Graphite, Alembic, Rickenbacker, Gibson, Kramer, Vigier, Manson, Dark Glass Electronics, Red Witch, Boss, Digitech
Basses: More basses than my wife thinks I have :peep:
Amps: Mesa Boogie Titan V12, Orange AD200B Mk3

Yes but his big falling out with Musicman was largely over their refusal to do a signature Stingray model. So I'd say he is one who would care about it things that have his name on it.
* 2 Stingray 5's (one heavily modded), Ibanez SR805, Ashbory, + more...
* Carvin B1500, Epifani PS1000, Ashdown Superfly amps.
* Lots of DIY neo/lightweight cabs including one made from composites http://www.ozbassforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2546

My 08 American Standard P5 had this.
Not sure if the 2011 model I have now is the same but likely.
Clover Apeiron5, Stingray 5, USA DLX Dimension 5HH, '97 USA DLX Suhr Jazz V, USA P5, BB735a and Bergantino Amplification.

The purpose of the hole is to install a "guitar mute" button.
If you order the Fender Flea Signature "STFU" model, it comes with one already installed.

Depending on the aesthetic you're after you could just put a sticker over it?

with my MIM jazz, they didn't even bother with continuing the 3TS paint job under the pickguard near where the hole is, lazy Mexicans lol probably figured no one would go pickguard-less with that hole there so why paint it properly.

to quote the Dodgey Brothers "we make cheaper commercials.......coz they're cheaper to make"

Shouldn't have taken off the pickguard....that hole is where they keep the flea, and he could be anywhere by now.
