Nice one - pity about the EMG though. The stock pickups are fantastic

Wow... that's not lived an easy life has it. 8/

Still, you could chamber all the weight out of that and never feel bad about it. I reckon I know a guy who could help you out with that... and a PU to replace that EMG. :D

Heath and his daughter just dropped in on their way to the Gosford Classic Car Museum, which is about 5 mins down the road. Heath was here on Tues night and played the 30Th Anniversary Musician and Bean briefly (without an amp). I think they might have been the inspiration for this 'new' one......

On an unrelated note, I played his Sandberg and Nathan East 5 while he was here and really enjoyed both of those. I particularly liked the mid contour control on the Yamaha. Would be brilliant for anybody using a lot of unknown backline (which I doubt Nathan would need to do much).

Heath dropped this off last week and I'm just starting to look at it now. It needs a new neck pickup and to have the thing rewired. First thing I noticed when Heath arrived, was that the case is in near mint condition! No proof that it's the original case, but it's definitely the same case these came in. Makes me wonder if the case was ever used?

Second thing I noticed is, that this is the lightest of the original Musicians (excluding the MC888 Bean Bass) I've seen (or even heard of). It's around 4.4kg. My original one is 5.1kg.

It had an EMG when Heath bought it. The aluminium ground plate, that the pickups screw into was missing. Heath made a new one!!! That's it on the left. Even tapped the holes for the right size thread!
Image

Heath sent me a shot of this, which made it look like everything was ready to reconnect. Opening it up, I found a number of wires that have been cut and some connected directly to the board, rather than through the multi-pin connector. Not the end of the world. Just be a little more fiddly to work on.
Image

My plan is to put in one of the prototype pickups I made for my MC30TH Musician, get everything working and then see how heath finds it. After that I can wind another pickup to suit his tastes.

I did a bit more work this afternoon. Removed the volume and tone knobs, to replace the 25k EMG pots with 250k ones and discovered solid shafts on the pots. Fortunately, whoever did the work, did an amazing job getting rid of the spines, without damaging the knobs, so they should still be usable.

The ground lug to the aluminium plate was broken off this one and obviously nonexistent in the new one Heath made. I was wondering how to attach it, as I can't imagine it being easy to solder onto aluminium? It occurred to me, I could just stick it under the plate, like they do connecting an earth to the bridge. Loosened the plates. Put the wires in. Screwed them back down. Works perfectly.

Went to remove the output jack and discovered these screws, which I strongly suspect aren't original........ :hellno:

Looking at the eq board; somebody has taken the original JRC4558 op amp and replaced it with a TL072. I assume they wanted an original JRC4558 for a Tube Screamer or some other pedal. I think I'll add an IC socket, to give Heath (or me) the option of changing it, if it doesn't sound great.
