2012 Hand Stained Am Standard Precision

Post by SpankyAndy » 26 Jun 2012, 18:18

Hi guys,

Aside from the hand stained finish (and figured wood), is this the same body, hardware and neck as the 2011 American Standard Precision bass - ie same lightweight tuners etc? Are there any differences tonally?

I'm trying to get my head around the current P bass product line, and also decide if I like the instruments looks enough.

Cheers

Andy

Not at work but i'll jump in quickly and say the main difference is the body is swamp ash which does tighten up the sound compared to the regular standard which is an alder body. Everything else including the hardware is the same. The couple we've had through have been well weighted which is always a bonus.

Never much liked Mocha, but I think the stained one above is real purty.

I have one like this that I stained myself in walnut stain...but it's alder... still looks nice, but Someday ... I may do another in ash.

^ Probably. It has additional routing under the guard and non original knobs.
Mocha is not usually the most desirable colour.

I never liked Mocha colour back in the day, but I really like it now. Must be getting old :/

Looking at all the pics again, there is nothing there I would change on that bass. It's a gorgeous looking P bass - I'd even keep the 'speed knobs" on it. Gives it character. Wish I had the money...
