Ampeg SCR-DI power supply (No longer looking)

Post by deeevo » 12 Aug 2018, 10:05

Ampeg SCR-DI No longer wanted. Buying a new one.

EDIT 17/8/18:
So I bought a new one & looking for a good quality reasonably priced power supply. The DI takes a 9volt battery but apparently sucks them dry in around 3hrs. There is talk that a 12volt power supply will give slightly more headroom.

I thought there was one that went unsold.
I really like mine, except for the excessive footprint.

I did a search of the forum & couldn't find anything. Excessive footprint?

There’s an Ampeg Classic Bass preamp $120 from Jamie Roberts in FB Bass/gear/trade Australia. It’s basically an SCR DI without the DI and Scrambler

don't wanna derail this thread, but two of you asked, SO

excessive footprint to me is about, no, actually exactly, the size of THREE MXR pedals, twice as big as the large M80 DI +

Takes up half of a Pedaltrain Metro 18

Bigger than the Tech 21 Programmable Bass Driver DI with it's 3 presets

that to me is excessive.

Means I leave it off the board so I can have some other pedals on it too :)

BUT it is a great pedal nonetheless, just a bit too big to be usefull always

Thanks Bazz,
I was worried you were referring to sound & not physical size. Size not a problem in this case as I'm not a pedalboard guy. Just hide it in the back of the Bassman or on the floor on its own. Appreciate your comments, no hijacking here.
Cheers
Steve

Thanks,
Probably regret not having the DI & Aux option, I can take or leave the Scrambler.

No worries mate, yeah if you want that DI and Aux in then maybe wait for another one to pop out in the classifieds, OR buy brand new https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 1516407478

Thanks bazzbass too, I thought at first my SCR DI was emitting toxic fumes or C02 for a moment there :drinkingbuddies:, yeah pedalboard real estate is very premium nowadays too :hmm

I was reading up on the new Ampeg Classic preamp pedal and there are complaints it's not as good as the SCR, but I did read it on TB so grain of salt and all. I was trying to compare to VT Bass, and the larger size of the SCR was putting me off too.

 yes, seems like if you're spoiling for an argument just voice your opinion on TB.

Hi Guys,
Bought a new one. (Good deal from Belfield Music, very good to deal with as well). Was wondering if any of you are running a power supply with yours & if so what do you recommend as a good quality - reasonably priced one. Will take 9-12 volt 100ma. I've read that a 12volt will give it slightly more headroom. Apparently these suck the 9volt battery in no time.

And apparently produce high pitched squealing on the way out. I just received mine and will be using it with a Moen power supply at 9V...
