FS: Godin A5 Ultra Fretless - semi-acoustic [Bris]

Post by Imaidan » 05 Jul 2018, 20:49

Lovely fretless semi-acoustic 5 string. I bought it for gigs where two sets are 'jazz' and then two sets of dance/funk. However I found I'm getting less of those 2-in-1 gigs, and when they do hire a jazz band they're really looking for the look of an upright bass. They'll talk right through every set, but its important that you look like a jazz band. :eyebrow:

The piezo is big and warm and full. With foam under the bridge it gets about as close as you'll get to an upright sound.
The mag pickup is great, really immediate and mid forward. 3 band EQ AND roland 13pin output to connect to a GR55 or similar.

Specs:
Rock Maple neck
Rosewood Fingerboard on Fretted Version, Ebony on Fretless version
16" fingerboard radius
34 " Scale
1 13/16" nut width (5-String)
1 1/2" nut width (4-String)
Two-Chamber Silver Leaf Maple body
Solid Cedar Top
LR Baggs Ribbon Transducer and custom preamp
Volume, Mid, Treble and Bass controls
Natural Semi-Gloss

Here's Esperanza Spalding playing one of these. If I was to guess, mostly on the mag pickup:

Great sound samples here:

Recommended Retail here is Aus is $3,499, but some of places selling for between $2900 - 2600

Asking $2000. Comes in a sweet Godin soft case.
Prefered pickup as it's an odd shaped bass that doesn't fit into any hardcase I've found, so might be a bit tricky to ship, but if you're super keen lets chat.

Prefer cash as I've got my eye on another bass, but might consider trades + or - cash for:
-pedal format preamp with a BMT tonestack.
-Micro-tron iii or 3 leaf envelope filter.
-Powered PA speakers (pref 12's, RCF or comparable)
-Behringer xr18
-Maple Board P bass

The only bass I've ever had very serious sellers remorse over was a Godin A5 fretless.
Root, root, third, fifth.

Thanks guys. It's lovely but it's a little too much 'jack of all trades master of none" type thing for me.
Slab for the funk gigs and upright for the jazz gigs seems to keep the bandleaders happiest.

Updated the listing with some possible trade options!

I know the width at the bridge should be a pretty good hint, but what's the string spacing at the bridge?
Cheers!

Hey, just got home from a rehearsal. I put a ruler over it, Looks like 65mm total across the strings. 65 divided by the 4 gaps = 16.25, which looks pretty similar to the ruler measurements between two strings. 90% confident its 16mm or 16.5mm.
