FS: 1978 Precision - $2900

Post by acebass » 13 Sep 2013, 15:12

Hi all,

Up for sale, definitely going, is this all original 1978 Fender Precision.

I'm in the market for a new boat, and this isnt being played, so I may as well let someone else enjoy it and use the funds for something I am enjoying.

This really is an exceptional bass for 38 years old.

Excellent condition that I would rate 8 out of 10 at least - Dan Stone has had this bass in his hands so he can clarify if I'm grading it appropriately.

It looks like it has been used a little, and stored under someones bed for most of its life.

It has a tortoiseshell guard that was quite rare for the 70's - most where black or white. On the back of the guard it has a nice message from the factory written on some masking tape - see pic.

Serial number on headstock and label on pickguard match

Frets are in excellent condition.

Neck is very clean, no wear or discolouration to the the varnish

Also have the ashtrays and thumbrest with it.

And non-standard Fender HSC

The blemishes that I should mention (all minor)
Small chip to finish near to strap lock
Light "pressing" into the varnish below the bridge where the ashtray has sat for 35 years
Light patina to the underside contour where someone probably stuck some tape to hold picks - can feel it, but cant really see it as its on the underside
One minor indentation at the top of the neck, not a deep chip

It plays like a dream

It's just an honest and reliable Precision that is in extremely good condition

Sensible asking price $2900

The price on the message suggests to me that the pickguard was sold separately, but yes, lovely piece.

I move that both acebass and Dazza76 be banned from the forum for both posting year of birth basses in the classifieds and causing severe bouts of GAS. :cry

No fair!

So aside from wanting to bash Matt across the head with this to knock some sense into him, I have played this bass before about 12-18 months ago.

It is an absolutely killer bass in amazing condition as the pics show. Lucky I wasn't born in 78!!!
