Looky looky what arrived today :hyper:

Image

It just looks amazing in the flesh. Have only played it unplugged so far but it feels amazing. I can tell already I'm really going to enjoy getting to know this instrument. Will hopefully record and upload a video soon.

Thank you so much Phil - this bass is a work of art! :notworthy:

Cool... She made it... Congrats... It is an amazing instrument...
Wait until you plug it in... Those Nordy pickups are SWEET!

Very balanced string-to-string.

That OBP preamp is very sensitive... Doesn't take much bass boost to make it THUMP!

It is a nice case... This bass deserves the best, though.

A stellar performance, Phil

The bass looks fantastic... makes me want another Mailoux. I don't even get many chances to play the basses I own :(

Hey Matt,
You've had this for a few days now. Ready for a little review or even a YouTube clip, yet? :)

PB, the answer is yes! :D

I finally got some time to sit down and record with it on Monday night and last night put the video together and uploaded it to YouTube:

Will take a while to get used to all the strings but this bass is everything I hoped for. Feels fantastic to play from the low B to the high C at the 24th fret. Access to the 24th fret is no problem whatsoever.

The Nordstrand Big Split pickups are awesome. Very even string to string. They are jazz pickups on steroids for sure. With the tone control right up the tone is pretty bright. The lead bass on the YouTube clip is in passive mode with the tone control around 80%. Having the series/parallel switch is great for fattening up the tone at the flick of the switch.

Phil is just a fantastic luthier. The finish on this bass is flawless. I love looking at it as much as I love playing it. It's too easy to play and you can hear me tripping over myself in the YouTube clip as a result

I get to take this on a gig this Sat arvo at the Opera Bar - can't wait! :hyper:

So it's a big thank you to Phil for a wonderful, wonderful instrument. :notworthy:
