What's your main GIGGING gear?

Post by BassLine » 23 Sep 2016, 08:38

Curious if there's anything in common between what each of us gigs the most. I've got gear I use weekly, and stuff I use infrequently.

Most used gear....
Rock: 2 passive P basses (rounds & flats), hybrid Tube pre/class D power amp, leightweight 212 cab.

Jazz: fretless with tapes, clean SS head, small cab 6"/12".

Church is the only gig I do regularly.

Refurbished Warwick 611 powered by Demeter 300W valve amp fed from Glock Bass Art Pre. (I have the luxury of not having to lug it in and out.)

Basses? Everyone gets a run on rotation but sometimes the song list calls for a particular bass or two. For some reason a couple of weekends ago we had a really rocky set list so the blue sparkle got the gig, although it wasn't it's turn. For the more subdued sets the Mouse comes out to play. It's not unusual for a couple of them to come along but in pairs I always have the Mouse. I am so spoiled.

If I am going out to play then it's the L212 with the Blue Soul.

I only have the GK Fusion 550.
Cabs has been a GK neo 4 Ohm 410- now have a pair of GK Neo 212iis which I am getting to know. One or two of them will probably be the gig cabs, although I am not ruling out the 410.
MXR Compressor, MXR Chorus, EHX Bass Big Muff Pi Deluxe
Basses- Passive P's TBirds, ES 335, LP Double Cut, a Jazz with series/ parallel, G3- whatever takes my fancy. Sometimes the Ric or a Telecaster Bass. Sometimes the Asat gets a run.
Happiness is .......a Telebass and 500W.

Rolling Stones tribute - rig is generally Bassman 500 into Bassman Neo 115 or Bassman Neo 610 depending on venue. Sometimes I'll use the O'Neill B15-100 and the Fliptops B15E copy in a smaller venue. Basses will be Gibson SG RI or Duesenberg Starplayer (all my basses wear flats)

Doors tribute - rigs as above. Bass is either Nash Paisley Tele bass or Nash P

Mixed classic rock covers - one of the Bassman cabs with either the Bassman head or Markbass TTE500. Nash P or Greco Thunderbird

60's girl band/Motown/soul - Bassman 500 or O'Neill into the Neo 115 or B15E. Nash Tele bass, Ampeg AEB-1 or Duesenberg

Blues band - one of the Bassman cabs with either the Bassman head or Markbass TTE500. Nash P or Nash Tele

Original rock - TTE500 into Bassman Neo 610. Cataldo Fenderbird, Greco bird or Nash P.

Rolling Stoned | The Volts | Doors Alive | Bonza | The Vinyl Beats

Basses: Nash, Fender, Duesenberg, Greco, Ibanez
Rig: Fender, Ampeg

Endorsing artist: Fender; Cave Passive Pedals

Rig for all gigs: Genzler Magellan 800 into 2 Genzler BA12-3, and of course a Tight-Arse. Mostly Line6 G50 but sometimes when I can't be bothered a lead. Zoom B3 most of the time.

Bass for all gigs: Dingwall Z2.

For the new cover band I've discovered that the de-fretted Yamaha RBX765 (bass all the way up, treble rolled off completely, and neck pickup only) works really well for the "smooth jazz" stuff and will play that.

Have occasionally played my first build (Red Baron) and can see myself play the multi-scale 6 (for an upcoming fusion project) and the "P" (for the blues gig) in the future. We'll see.

I've got 2 gigging rigs - Electric and double get about 50/50 gig time.

DB: QSC K10 powered monitor on a stick. The preamp will depend on the gig: stage size, band line-up and playing volume.

EB: I've had to move on from my trusty Mesa Scout 12 combo to a Markbass LM2 and Berg CN212. Haven't gigged the Berg yet ... but sounds YUUGE.

American Std Precision V into a pedal board, then into the FOH and IEM's (for church)

Photo of board - thinking about upgrading from IKEA CD rack base to IKEA shelf :)

Generally my Gigging rig these days in Super Bassman 300 into Fender 410 Neo. 610 Neo comes out to play on big stages. GK MB800 always comes a long for the ride as a backup.
Smaller gigs usually are my VT Bass deluxe/pedal board into QSC K12, and this rig often gets used for a small stage, or horrid load in along with IEM. I recently took possession of a TTE500/NV115 rig and I'm hoping to use that for smaller gigs too, infact it is getting a run this weekend at a wedding gig.

Corporate cover/party band: Fender Reggie Hamilton CS PJ5 and Musicman Stingray 5H
Rolling stones tribute: Fender MIM P bass with flats and Warmoth Jazz
Original Band TREVA: Fender Reggie Hamilton CS PJ5 and Squier VM P5
Fill in cover gigs and other things: Sadowsky Metro Hybrid PJ4
Orignal band Coke and nuts: Sadowsky Metro Hybrid PJ4 and Fender MIJ (seafoam grreen) P bass

My standard setup for a long time has been Labsystems SS600 into Lab 6x10. More important than that fr me is the Darkglass b7k, this goes everywhere i go. And the stingray fits for everything i do

I use just two setups and don't change unless something goes wrong:

Normal Pub/Club:
Classic Stingray 4 with very dead Daddy XL165's (Owen's Doozy Starplayer while I have it, thanks Owen!)
TC Electronic Polytune
Little Mark II (although I will be trying a Tecamp Puma soon and I pack a GK MB200 as a spare)
Vertically stacked pair of Markbass Traveller 102P's

Teensy/"Unplugged" (not really):
Rob Allen Mouse or if I'm weally weally bwave the Ashbory, I take both
TC Electronic Polytune clip-on
Markbass 121P Combo

I use AE212 with MB Fusion 800 for most gigs
Add AE112 and use WT800B for larger shows as fusion won't do 2.67 ohm (Must try a BAMP one day)
Run an iRIG into iPAd or iPhone for the Peterson Tuner App
(1 load with folding sack truck)

2 Basses to every show; Sadowsky MS5 or Lakland 5594
Recently using a RW jazz for the Eagles show we do + Brian West Fretless 5

More modern Gigs and I'll take one of the Yammies or the Brubaker (too spoilt for choice really)
MTD 535, Brubaker KXB Extreme 5, Lakland 5594, Sadowsky Metro MS5, Stingray 5, Yamaha TRB6P (For Sale), West Fretless 5, Fender RW J, NS WAV4
Bergantino B|Amp,
Bergantino AE212, AE112

Normal gigs: Blues/Roots & originals
Fender TB600 head, 2 x Berg CN112, Sandberg VM5 Supreme with TI Jazz flats (80% play time) & Squier P with Sadowsky Black Label flats / Dimarzio Model P pup (20% play time), Aggi TH500 as backup.
Loving this setup and the TB600 is great for different rooms with the room control knob & pedal. The VM5 has enough tonal options with active/passive & 3 way toggle select for H pup to cover most songs, the Squier P is great for some songs and doubles as a backup, the only effect I use is the TB600's O/D on Sunshine Of Your Love for that Jack Bruce thing but have used a MXR chorus deluxe over it at times as well for some swell depending on the gig.

I still have GAS for a Bassman 300T & Bassman 610 Neo setup but hard to justify this year when the TB600/Berg combo still makes me grin when I get to crank the vol.

Acoustic gigs: Stripped back originals and soul/Amy Housewine type stuff with female vocalist
Aggi TH500, Fishman Platinum Pro, Eden EX112, Kala Ubass
Basses: Sandberg VM5, Fender Geddy Lee J & Fretless P, Warmoth '69 SCP, Squier VM TB.
Amps: Traynor YBA200, Fender TB600, GB STM600
Cabs: Fender Rumble 410 V3, Eden EX112

My main rig at the moment is a Japanese 62 Jazz Bass into an Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 into a single Markbass 102HF. For occasional bigger gigs I'll add a second 102HF. I'll sometimes use a different Bass but the Jazz covers everything I do. For now I'm mainly doing Blues and 50's Rock'n'Roll dance gigs, with the occasional cabaret show.
