So I've been working away on the last of this series. Process has been the same for the others but this one is different in it's wood selection. It's a neapolitan ice-cream sandwich of Koa, Walnut and Silky Oak. The Koa was a present from DrBass and the Silky Oak from Rob at MSGM. Can't screw this one up!

And just before getting its groove on or is that in? This is the binding machine that one of the guys at MSGM made. It's a set of drawer runners with the router attached and a counter weight that allows the router to follow the contours of the top of the guitar so the depth of the cut remains the same and keeps it parallel to the sides. Clever chap! Works just fine and didn't cost anywhere near what the imported machine that does the same thing would be.

Getting close to finishing the last one.

Still got some electronics issues to sort out on all three but that should be sorted this week too, or at least I'll know what needs to be done.

It just looks soooo good - the koa really came alive, didn't it?

And no-one will know that something's missing ;) .

Very much an homage to Rob’s work Terry, I owned a very nice one until recently. I sold it because I picked up an equally good fretless in a longer scale that just sings and the Mouse stayed home.

Thanks Pete.

Question. What do you do with the scraps left over from the builds?

Well you the smallest off cuts go to David for his collection of little bits which get people out of trouble. The smaller pieces to the guy making ukulele sized copies of guitars, and you build a travel bass with what's left.

I didn't know what the next project would be so asked the guys advice and Rob suggested something with a set neck as a bit of a challenge, I thought I could do a guitar in the same format of the basses I've just finished but David suggested the travel bass idea to use up the last of the walnut. It's got a big split down the middle but we can get the pieces we need out of it without hitting the crack.

Looks a bit like this:

And with the templates stuck on:

I'll have nothing fancy for controls, not even a volume. I'll grab a Lace USAB acoustic guitar pickup which comes prewired to a jack and is a passive pup. Won't need to rout going down that line. Rare earth magnets will hold the wings to the body and for travel I'll see if I can use magnets to attach the wings to the back of the "stick" rather than carry three pieces around.

Now THAT looks like an interesting project. Magnets? Love it.

BTW, Blaine, I'll bring you Babicz bridge on Friday, I'll never use it after all, and this looks like a 4-string.
