All looking great, Pete. Almost came in today but decided to "suffer" at home with rasping, filing, sanding.
Neck's almost done now, and body shaping is about half way. I know, still need to do a couple of routing sessions ... . The spalted timber is crazy to work with, some sections crumble when you look at them. Lots of CA.
Safe trip back, and catch up next time.

Parts !!! so I can measure neck width now and work out string height and neck angle
Gold wouldn't have been my first choice but I think it works

Initial carving on the 36" 6 string ... haven't figured what bridge I'm going to use so I've left the bottom untouched for the moment.
Once the neck is glued on I'll further refine the carve.

It's all alder, just happens to be very different colours.
I was thinking of not painting it a solid colour which was the original idea and instead artificially aging it and just spraying a clear coat. Rat rod style I guess

Coffee table much

LOVE the moon ebony board, definitely an area (boards) I need to look into a little more. Looks great, Pete, and looking forward to catching up early November.
Regards,
Michael

It is a bit of an experiment so it could well turn out to be a wall hanging.
The pale moon ebony was pretty hard to find or at least a piece I liked. And I agonised over if it was “to much” with the ziricote body still not sure. it was glued on yesterday so it’s there now

So slightly embarrassing moment ... I have been working on a 30” build prototype for a while. I had started with and EVH Wolfgang template as a starting point.
As a reminder
As it turns out Mr Scott Whitely appears to have done exactly the same
So back to the drawing board for me. I started with my single cut 36” design template and modified it and ended up with something that looks like the love child of my 36” (which was based on my ritter) and a Carl Thompson. A Ritter/Thompson hybrid I guess
I’ve got some American Cherry so I’ll start the prototype next week but here’s my new 30” design ... thoughts? I’ve been agonising over the proportions
