Very similar to the Brubaker design of my KXB - looks great and love how the grain pops on the back. Really exciting stuff going on there Michael!

I've lately been watching videos on intricate Japanese woodworking mostly joinery, which this reminds me of. I think actually that's a high compliment!

Thank you, guys,

Just one of those things born out of necessity - just didn't have enough "fat" in the neck blank for this building approach and walnut made sense since it's in the contrast layer in the body to start with. The new build (Kermit's fretless 6 string brother) won't need it since I had a nice chunk of wenge (thank you, David).

Anyway, really appreciate your positive comments, way too kind.

Regards,
Michael

Just had a look on the Brubaker site - wow, amazing stuff going on there, but a little careful with detailed shots. Not quite sure how the single cut design works with the 4 neck screws? Anyway, some inspiration ... .

Time for an update.

David just sent through some teaser pix and I thought I'd pass them on.

As much as I don't look forward to wet-sanding and polishing I agree with David that it would be a crime NOT to go gloss (I originally wanted a satin finish). Can't wait to see this in real life.

And of course the fretless brother (with some small modifications to the body shape) is in the early stages of building. Good times - thank you for getting this colour (at least according to what I see on my screen) spot-on, David!! Will pop nicely with the natural maple neck.

Michael

Wow, able to check it out in person today, and it's a stunner. Works beautifully with the maple neck and board (and it's not quite as curvy in real life - somewhat curvy, I admit - it's a perspective thing:

A couple more gloss coats next week hopefully, then 2 - 3 weeks of curing before wet-sanding and polishing. So probably another 5 weeks before this is played for the first time.
