Not quite finished. Still needs some final sanding and touch ups and a few frets to level, wider nut and the intonation and D-tuner adjusted. And perhaps widen the string spacing by half a mm? But it's wired up, strung up for the GTG tomorrow.

Revising the design. Practically, better access to the upper frets and aesthetically, more balanced. Working with lines.

Holidays = woodworking! 😁
Shaping a swamp ash body on the spindle sander on a Sunday afternoon.

Uluru coloured dust. Love working with with padauk - a great combo with maple. This neck will be for a 33" scale 5 string with a maple fingerboard and swamp ash body. Thinking of something different using some coloured dyes??

Fret slots cut. LMI fret jig and saw, along with their scale templates from Luthiers Mercantile help make an accurate and clean cut. The one is 33" scale length.

Another neck cut and routed. Fitted with carbon fibre rods to add strength and rigidity. This one is roasted maple. Smells delicious! It will be 32" scale with a fretless pale moon ebony board.

Neck pocket routed and finished with a chisel and sanding beam. Body cavities routed. Next comes hand shaping with Japanese rasps.

My favourite tool and part of the build. Japanese Dragon Rasps from Stewmac for shaping the body, by sight and touch, till it looks and feels right.

Two bodies shaped, scraped and sanded. This is it for holidays. More to come ... gradually ...
