Not so much - figured I should have *something* as a profile pic. I don't even know where this came from, but installed WhatsApp on my phone the other day and this somehow became my profile photo there, thought it was hilarious so it stayed :D

Hi, I'm Dave from the south coast of NSW.
I've been lurking around the classifieds for a while until I found something I wanted to buy, so joined the forum.
Seems friendlier than TB.
I'm pretty much a newbie, and as you can see by my username 'midlifecrisis' (and the name of our band), I am a mid-life guy trying to do the things I didn't when I was younger!!
I've been learning bass just by myself at home for a few years until I stumbled into a band. I'm having a ball, starting to get some paid gigs at the pubs and smaller intimate venues. Still can't believe people pay me money to play, as I'm still essentially a 'newbie' just getting through most of the time!
I have to say, as with everything 'new', this hobby has given me GAS. There's so much gear out there, basses, amps, cabs, pedals, heck, and it's so much fun trying all this stuff out. At the moment I've got a pretty decent 'modest' setup, being a Fender AM PJ, , Fender CIJ PJ "Lyte', Warwick Streamer LX4, Mesa D800, GK 212. And still gassing for more gear!
Looking forward to the future here at Ozbass.
Cheers,
Dave.

Welcome midlifecrisis Dave! As you have found out, you're never too old to have GAS... And for a "newbie" that setup is a bit beyond "modest", except for the obvious fact that you have had some serious GAS attacks already.

Of your gear listed, I'm personally GAS'd by your CIJ PJ "Lyte"... yes! ...
What kind of music does your band of middle-aged sonic adventurers play?

Welcome Dave, not so modest! Looks a good setup to me. I’m in the same category as you but not as advanced. :)

yes, I love my 'Lyte'. I came about aquiring it by accident. A mate of mine (our sound guy ) rang me out of the blue and asked me if I'd be interested in one of his bases. He said he only wanted about $400 for it!! As we live in a smallist community, he said he wants somebody to keep it in our town. That was too cheap! So I gave him $500. It's a great bass, very light and so much fun to play as it's so versatile.
Our band plays the usual pub rock, like Jet, Black Keys, John Butler, Led Zep, etc. But we are starting to branch out (looking for more intimate gigs) , and playing more performance songs. it's always a balance between what they want to pay you for and what you really want to play.
Our favourite newest song is Carnival, by Natalie Merchant.

I dunno about USUAL pub rock. I can honestly say I have never seen one band cover those four artists. BUT I'd LIKE to :) :notworthy:

As I live on the coast, I'm a surfer. Also like spearfishing (handspear) and mountain biking.

Well, we try to get away from the boring played to death standards (as well as the standard artists). We would love to do more 'performance' style songs, and hopefully after this gig we're doing on Sat night at an intimate bar venue, we might get more of these gigs, which will mean we can diversify. ;)
