Forum crashes

Post by Phil » 02 Nov 2016, 07:00

I'm sure some of you would have noticed the forum was crashed last night and this morning. It's now the third time in less than two months that the sessions database crashes. The webhost is happy to fix the crashed database but sends me back to the developper to find out what the underlying issue to those crashes is. If anyone on the forum has phpbb and database experiences and willing to donate time to figure out what is causing this please send me a pm.

It must be so frustrating. I'm no expert, not even close, but when our SQL database on one of our larger sites goes down it's always too much data in the tank. At least that's what my engineers say. They back it up, purge it, leaving a few months worth of data in the tank and start over again.

I don't know much about SQL except hoe to sometimes maintain my mythtv database. One thing though that I have noticed is that on other forums I frequent, long threads, such as our ebay one will periodically get locked and restarted. I guess the older versions of them eventually get purged. I am not sure if that help with this sort of scenario or not though.

I am not sure on how much the forum gets hammered. I wouldn't assume overly so. So phpBB should cope "okay". The longer threads such as the ebay one can be problematic, sure. Perhaps they should be closed with another one opened. I don't think anyone will want to start at page 1 and go through 600+ pages of old ebay links and banter anyways.

It's always the same table, the connections table. I have tried to connect with Tapatalk and it always hangs. I am wondering if when you get enough attempts to connect with Tapatalk it crashes.

If you got an SQL error message upon hitting "submit", check your outbox, if it's there then it has been sent but not opened by the recipient afaik

Thanks BazzBass. I saw the SQL trace and assumed that nothing had happened.

I'm guessing the error I had attempting to login just now is related to attempts to fix the stability issues, just figured I'd mention it if at all relevant. I'm using my already logged in phone browser to post this.
