Re: Amp facing forward or rear-ward...?

Yes. Used to run a desk occasionally and the guitar player would go for really boosted screechy trebly solos... over the top of the singer. Quick fader adjustment later and "sure, you sounded great!!!"

Re: Vintage Fender Pickup Wiring

Personally, what I would do if I was doing what noplanb suggested is use 250K for the J pickups, and buy 250k and 500k pots for the bucker, with the idea of trying them both. I would then solder one of them into the bass, decide it was good enough, and never even try the option (which might be even ...

Re: Airbag recall - check if yours is safe

We've been in 4 times now and I think they are now safe. One had a really old dangerous one, so the replaced it with a bad, but not so bad one. We then had to go back and get that one done when a new one was available. The other car went in twice. The driver's bag got recalled and replaced, and then...

Re: It's all just circuits

Now, now, flanger has it's place. When you are playing something rock-ish and the rest of the band insists on a root note on the beat from the bass, you have to do something to make it a bit less boring ;-)

Re: are nut slot hieights misunderstood?

One trick that I have used very successfully is a half pencil. You need a sharp pencil that is cut in half lengthwise. Lay it down over the frets (with the cut face down and strings off). You will be able to leave a thin pencil mark across the nut at the height of the frets. It will curve to match t...

Re: It's all just circuits

Yeah, it's some of those things like bit-crushing etc that I had in mind when I said that it's starting to happen. I think it will be cool to see just where that concept can get to.

Re: It's all just circuits

I think that it is starting to happen, but one day somebody is going to come up with a digital effect that does not even attempt to mimic the sound of an analog effect unit and yet still does something musically useful. That will be pretty cool - and most people will hate it because it won't be "tra...

Re: It's all just circuits

I think that it is possible to model analog effects digitally. I am not convinced that it always responds and sounds exactly the same. As packrat says, a circuit that is quite simple electronically can still be complicated acoustically. I suspect that is more a failing of our current software design...

Re: It's all just circuits

You haven't accounted for the mojo though!! Seriously though I did see a fairly in depth analysis of a vintage wah vs a modern one once. The measured outputs were jut slightly different using oscilloscopes and frequency measures. It turned out that the most likely reason was that the iron core of th...

Oh look, google found it. https://www.theaustralian.com.au/higher-education/uni-code-demands-teaching-against-abortion-ivf-for-gays/news-story/f930e5c3f05d689a352b48e65b13526b It is behind a paywall so I can't read it. The headline doesn't say anything about contraception for unmarried women. It se...

Re: Political Coverage By the Media in Our Country - PART TWO

So you have evidence of one politician who has been pretty thoroughly discredited doing dodgy things.

You don't have any evidence that is available to the rest of us regarding religious universities teaching doctors to refuse basic medical care.

Religious universities are training doctors to refuse basic medical care that isn’t church approved. Religious politicians are doing the same thing to medical care when they aren’t trying to defund investigations into church sexual abuse.

There is no separation.

Re: How is this GST for overseas items under 1k going to work ?

I just paid an extra 10% for something on ebay today. Was still way cheaper than buying the same thing from Australia, so no chance it would stop the overseas purchase.
