Re: Why not have a go? - Crazy cheap necks

That certainly is crazy. The truss rod would be my main concern and the glue used to stick it all together. I know how much work there is in making a neck and just can't comprehend how this could be any good. The old saying, you get what you pay for comes to mind. Something just seems not right :sh...

Re: Slowlearner's rolling cavalcade of luthiery horrors

There are two different things I've been thinking about... 1. Meranti necks I went through some of my supplies thinking, "dang, gonna have to buy some trussrods for these blanks." Well, I knew I had a spare Stewmac spoked hotrod in there. I didn't realize I had another TWO different rods. So that's ...

Re: Slowlearner's rolling cavalcade of luthiery horrors

This headless string tuners turned up today. I'm pretty happy with them. I'll have to come up with a tailpiece to go with them. Shouldn't be too hard. https://i.imgur.com/FsYZ6br.jpg One of the kids said, "all you spend money on is guitar parts!" Me; "No, that's not true." Kid; "Well what else do yo...

Not even a patch on the Brits - I've owned 2 Triumphs and a Rover. Electricals made by Lucas: The Prince of Darkness https://jalopnik.com/399791/joe-lucas-prince-of-darkness-british-electrical-system-jokes I believe another theory about Lucas headlamps is that they "suck the darkness in", so after ...

Re: Slowlearner's rolling cavalcade of luthiery horrors

This evening I was able to fire up the thicknesser and dust extractor for a few minutes to run these through. I'm pretty happy with them I have to say. https://i.imgur.com/pYiYbz3.jpg Wetted down the grain looks pretty good and the pinstripe of Tassie oak really highlights the combo. One came out at...

I may be in love... https://i.imgur.com/XFrk80Q.jpg Man, this thing is AWESOME. Had to sharpen some missing chunks out of the blade, but then. Oh the ribbons of glory! And another thing, why has it taken up to now to pick a neck timber that doesn't destroy my tools or chip out so easily? #fool :red ...

Hifi tone and IEMs - Is there are thing going on there?

On Thursday this week, spent the morning hanging with a fellow bassplayer and jamming, talking gear and generally chewing the fat. He made an interesting observation about the basses I've made, that being they're not Hifi. It came as a bit of a surprise, but lining my basses up against his Bart/EMG ...

Slowlearner's rolling cavalcade of luthiery horrors

Up til now I've had multiple threads for builds etc, etc. But with everything going on at the mo, I'm going to roll everything into one terrible place for you all to frown and laugh at. I've got too much wood, too many ideas, too many broken guitars and not enough time to do everything (and a car pr...

European cars - never again! This particular brand anyway, starting with B and ending in MW...... One small problem and a sensor picks up something from another sensor which is sniffing another sensor which activates an engine immobiliser, even if the problem is minor. To be fair it probably works ...
