Totally agree. These are scheduled for satin but I’m wondering whether the poplar top should get full deep gloss.
I’d do satin (but that’s just me).

Are those 4 holes (for the strings, I suppose) lined up correctly? :poke:

See you tomorrow.

Michael

Umm let’s say that the ones I measured were right. Good thing is you won’t see them because the bridge covers them up.

To dusty in the shop to do any paint work today. Caught up with Michael busily fret levelling and re-crowning. So I left a bit early having drilled the screw holes for the various covers, got the neck ready for next weekend and sanded down the pieces for the start of the top coating next week, glued up (book-matched) the lovely Koa top and put a thickish veneer of silky oak on the bottom of the newest body. But yes I have sort of painted myself into a corner again.

Haven’t been around for a while and miss heaps of progress. I sincerely hope Ivan makes an offer to do some demo videos when they are done .... subtle

I'm hoping too. Maybe having Monique for a while will encourage him to do it?

Lots happened this week. David let me loose with paint gun so they got their final coats. While the bodies were hardening up the bits for the necks got assembled. The nuts and bridges were roughed in and today I was doing the slotting for the correct height. My dinning room table became my work bench and the electronics wired up and strings that fitted put on. I could of cried yesterday when I found the tape wounds I brought months ago were, depending on the string, between 5 and 20mm short. So the Poplar is running LaBella flat wounds for a Hofner bass and the Walnut is running the Rotosounds that I originally brought with the silks pared back. The difference is the longer body on the Poplar bass behind the bridge. I'll change up both when stocks of Rotosound RS88N-M come in. Chalk up another positive for customer service at BassCentre as I had both Guy and Mal sorting through what they had that would fit to get me out of trouble.

A few tweaks to the piezo bridges in the shop next week, fitting the strap locks and maybe the capacitor choices but they're ready for the wall at tomorrows guitar show.

That spalted one looks so elegant. I love the fretboard extension/thumb rest - never seen that before that I recall - great idea and great result.

Thanks for the nice comments. I'd love to take credit for the thumb rest but I stole it so can't take any credit. Have a look at Rob Allen' offerings and you'll see where I was inspired from.

Thanks Pete, I have a bit of finishing work to do and then I'll be totally satisfied and thanks again for the top wood I think it's come up just fine too.
