Re: Health Goals for 2017
I'm home now from 3 days of radioactive iodine treatment, which is a mop up for peace of mind after my surgery, so I'm still kicking thyroid cancer's butt. My health goal for the rest of 2017 is to get strong and lean again.

Good job, Mark.
My goal's the same.
Got a chin-up bar, swiss ball and a cpl of 12k kettlebells about a month ago.
Want to be strong for the surf, I find I get quite unbalanced if surfing is my only exercise. Legs get real thin.

Mine is ongoing from 2016. Eat right. Vigorous exercise at least 3 times a week so that i can stop being a fat bastard and regain my sexiness.

Re: Health Goals for 2017
Because of the cool weather (I'm attributing this to the weather, anyway), my running is improving quite a bit... In my last 5 park runs, I've had 4 PB's...PilbaraBass wrote:Had my best 5k park run yesterday ... 28:57 ...
I know it's slow , but after 20 runs, it's only my 4th time under 30mins and first time under 29 ...
Legs are sore today, though ... usually they aren't ...
Last week I ran 27:56, that's a minute faster than my April run...
My new TomTom GPS watch is also a great aid. Set it for running mode and it uses the GPS to give a accumulated minutes-per-kilometre pace. So, say I start at under 5min/km and then by the midpoint, I am at 5:15... then I hit the worst part of the run (3km to 4.5km) and I just keep looking at my watch and staving of 5:40 ... then at the last 500 I just start pushing hard again, knowing that there is an end in sight.

Good job. Keep at it!! I quit in mid 2014. It's tough but definately possible. You gain back your health and a whole lot of change in your pocket. If you need to reinforce willpower, hypnotherapy works for some.veebass wrote:After many years I stopped smoking 9 days ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Health Goals for 2017
Sorry to hear of your thyroid cancer Mark but curious also. I'm currently got an increase in thyroid nodules scan on scan.Aussie Mark wrote:I'm home now from 3 days of radioactive iodine treatment, which is a mop up for peace of mind after my surgery, so I'm still kicking thyroid cancer's butt. Specialist suggested at the first regrowth scan that 98-2% chance benign, after second increase he dropped that to 50-50% cancer. No extra biopsys yet as we don't want to stir it up. We are taking a 'risk based' approach and I'm getting the next scan in Sept (or before if I feel like there is a negative change) and if grown again then FNA biopsy straight away. He gave me the referrals to take with me.
Then, if cancer he will rip the thyroid out, hasn't spoken about 'what else' happens after.
He did say "oh, it will kill you.... but not until you are 104". That was reassuring...
