I've had my Labby VP300 & 4x10 for around 8 years with no plans to get rid of either.
The cab is the older 500W & was pre-owned before living with me, doesn't quite hang with a 5 string like it used to but still sounds great with a 4 after a hard life.
About a year or so after buying the VP300 new it developed a high end hiss.
After discussing the problem with Tim I sent him the amp, he fixed the the problem & did a mod to update mine to his current line of amps (can't remember what it was exactly).
All work done free of charge.

Since then has Tim revalved a Hughs & Kettner guitar amp for me,
sounded awesome when he'd finished with it!

A top bloke who makes top notch gear & passionate is about it.

Disclaimer. I'm not solid state or tube biased, in fact I like both technologies, but for reliability and the places I've played, SS seems to be the go. Which reminds me, Mesa Boogie or SVT tube heads are still giving me GAS.

Lab Systems:
I've been using a 400B head ( http://www.labsystems.com.au/manuals/400b.pdf ) since the mid 90's, although between late 2001 to the start of this year its only seen the light of day a dozen times.

Only issue I had with it was the fan needed replacing as the bearings went west and was very noisey, not surprising with all the bush gigs its done.

If I remember correctly back then the head cost around $800 but that was still 2 or 3 hundred less than a Gallien Kruger equivalent but the clincher was that the LabSys is Aussie made.

This head has never let me down and has HUGE bass, too much if that's at all possible. I heard that back in the day that some bassists were sending theirs back to 'debass' the bass pot. Still, it's a good versatile amp good for slap n pop, modal or pumping the quavers.

Agreed that the on board Compressor is cool and has heaps of LOUD once past 10 o'clock. One down side, it's a 10kg brick!

Used to run the head through a Peavey 8ohm 410 bin, nowadays I run an Ampeg 410HLF at 4ohms. Man, even though it's old tech it still kicks arse!

Just a heads up regarding a Labsystems 250B amp that I'm about to list on Oz fleabay. It's very well used (not by me) and looks it, but works well. Bought as a spare but never used in anger (have another 250B). Going cheap IMHO. These are great amps.

Good memories here. Ran a Labsystems 400B thru an Ampeg 4x10 throughout the mid 90's when I was gigging 150-200 times a year. Bloody good rig and it sounded great. I seem to recall playing a white P-Bass Lyte and a Status Energy thru it. Sign o' the times...

Never had an issue with it up until I dropped it off at Music Swop Shop on my way to the airport when I moved to the US in 1996.

I've only tried a Lab sys 300 and 600vp amp heads and the 210 speakers, on electric and the tree. Have to say the was nothing short of amazing, could not believe the bottom end from the 210 speakers. Here's some trivia for you, the lab sys 112 speaker one a top tone award in Bass player mag sometime in the late noughties but I have no memory of ever seeing one live or at the bass centre.

I just scored a 610 and love it

It sits really sweetly with my Tecamp Puma 900, and also with my Genz Benz GBE 750.

Top cab, very loud, very fat and rounded. I have been running both of my amps flat, which is something I have rarely done in the past.

After running with a Schroeder for a while it took me a bit of time to get used to a more traditional tone with less mid bump (and actually having a mid level somewhere where it should be). It just makes my 78 P sound so nice and woody. My custom Jazz sounds great through absolutely anything, and this cab is no exception.

And the best thing about this 610 is that it is only marginally taller than my trusty Peavey Pro 115, so it sits in the back of the wagon nicely and I dont have to put the seat down.

I went to see Tim Evans last night, to get some rack ears for my VP600HP

Great bloke and his workshop is just what you think it will be, a cavern full of electronics.

I asked about the manufacture of labsystems gear, and he advised me that whilst he's not actively mass producing units, he does have the capacity and materials to manufacture 600's to order.

And you'll probably be happy with the pricing too......

So as of yesterday, the official line is that some specific Labsystems amps are still available to purchase from Tim Evans.

I am actively promoting this because a) it's a good product and b) not many people around are doing what Tim is doing, and he deserves the business.

So if you are in the market for a new Labby amp, give him a call.

Cheers

I used to run a Labsystems 400b with an Ampeg rack preamp back into the return. I did hundreds of gigs with it. Now it's my spare. Never had a problem with it.

When my 400B is powered up, the tone controls are producing white noise but only when I actually move/turn the tone knobs. Mea culpa as after lugging out after a gig the r/cases slid off of the damn trolley (I hate lugging up and down steps) and you guessed it, I watched the case with my Labsys bounce down the stairway and bounce off the walls. Ugh! :banghead:

Amazingly, the amp still kicks arse but without the tonal control. Next step is to see if we can repair this in my shop, the lid comes off later today but my gut tells me I should be packing the amp off to Tim Evans.

UPDATE:
Well the cover didn't come off as I decided to send the amp to Tim instead. Now I've received an email and invoice which was in the ball park figure Tim gave me for the repair.

Best take care of that ASAP...

Update because I've overlooked this...

The amp has been sent to Tim, repaired and returned. Works great, have tone controls again and Tim has added a Speakon connector as well.

Using the amp at the first live gigs after the repair, I'm still amazed at how this s/state amp kicks arse and the tonal diversity I have at my disposal. Magic!

Thank you Mr Evans!

I have one of their "valve" preamps . . (single valve , I think)
and its ok.
I dont use it anymore, so I guess I must not have loved it that much.

I've got a VP600HP... Love it!

Though, it took a dive off my back seat in the car when I was nearly taken out by a taxi driver who was too busy looking at someone trying to wave him down. I had someone local do the work to get it up and running again, but it's not the same. I'm keen to get in contact with one of the guys from Labsystems and try to organise to get my baby back to it's former glory.

I also picked up a Lab 15 but the speaker died. Replaced it with a much more powerful Aussie made speaker, but the brand name escapes me. I'm keen to get my hands on a 4x10 or even a 6x10.
