FIFA World Cup 2018

Post by PilbaraBass » 20 Jun 2018, 09:21

I couldn't find a discussion thread for this... if there is already, please discard...

But at any rate... what are your thoughts so far? (Round 1 Group stage complete and into Round 2)

Russia??? really 6 points and a 5 goal GD ??? That's impressive...

Last night, Colombia player gets a red 3 minutes in ??? Really ???

My pick for the tournament ... Belgium ...

When does it start ... oh wait .... sorry, it's soccer. The refs always give Australia a raw deal so I've lost interest.

I love it so far! Every match has been at the very least interesting. Russia and Belgium are off to a flying start, England scraped by ;)
Australia were unlucky in their first game I reckon, will be interesting to see how they stack up against the other teams in their group (which is the highest ranked group in the WC)

the penalty cup

SO many penalties

lotsa goals makes for good viewing

only ONE game on free to air a night is criminal

slowly the various communications ministers have let the anti-syphoning list get smaller and smaller, F1, V8s, AFL, and now the world cup.

The stupidity is that the FA Cup HAS to remain on free to air but the Socceroos' World Cup qualifying games were not on the list.

I don't like the Aussies chances if they keep playing like they did against France. Did we even have a shot on target? apart from the penalty that is hehe

Where did my post go? Oh well, let's try again.

Belgium? Really? After winning against that soccer powerhouse Panama? Hmmm ... ;) . Might as well say Iceland :D .

Anyway, I hedge my bets until the end of the group stage - a much clearer picture should emerge by then.

Just because a team is not tested yet does not mean that they are non-achievers

Yes, waiting until the elimination stage is a valid approach ... I’m just saying who I think has a good shot... IF they make it through group ...

I mean, right now, the best team to this point is actually RUSSIA! 6 pts ... 5 GD ... impressive

Wow! So much negativity ...
Sepp Blatter is no longer FIFA President ... the Italian , Antonio Infantino, is.

Yes... indeed a bit of corruption there

All tongue-in-cheek ... .

Just look at "my" team - reigning champs, and performed abysmally in their first match. Enjoy watching, Kerry - shame about the time zone discrepancy.

The diving is appalling. Why can't these multi million dollar players just play the game and not worry about the theatrics. Ruins what could be a decent sport if done right. Maybe making the goals bigger would help, or cut it back to 9 players per side?

"My" team won 5 world cups... And also had an abysmal performance. But I guess it is the world cup.. Everyone playing for their lives.. That's the beauty about it.
Could you please send me some detailed pics?

I only started watching last night. Happy that Japan won only because Colombia really seemed to be hamming it up at any opportunity to extract a free kick. That's what it looked like to me anyway, maybe that's just part of the game and they all do it

Totally agree. I don't think the free kick that lead to the Colombian goal should have been a free kick. Or if it was, it should have been given to Japan instead.

The diving is ridiculous and simply an attempt at cheating. Surely they can use the video review technology to review a match and ban players from the next match for excessive diving / acting  Wouldn't that help stop it if you risked missing the next match, especially as the tournament gets to the pointy end?

I love Italy and Netherlands, but they truly deserve it, especially that imbecile Italian couch.
