Takl to me about leads

Postby Nigel on 28 Jul 2010, 15:00

I'm currently using a dimarzio one I bought about 5 years ago. I vaguely remember paying just over $100 for it and it had some kind of lifetime gurantee. I've had no issues with it but want to keep using it with my green bass.
I'm thinking of getting something new, maybe one of those silent unplug ones. any one out there recomend me a good one and roughly what they are worth?
Arrived: Mailloux Custom "Lucky 13", Peavey 6 string bass, SWR Baby Baby Blue, Mojo-Sonic 1x10 Ext cab, Sadowsky outboard pre.

I've never been a fan of those cables with the mute switches, but then again I have a Mute switch on my pedal board.

Anyway, anarchyok is selling a few planet waves cables with these switches on them in the Accessories For Sale forum. I never had an issue with any of the Planet Waves cable I have used in the past.

There are loads of great leads out there...makes the shopping difficult...

I personally am considering moving to one of these

You can't go wrong with canare cable and neutrik connectors...this lead has both :)

+1
I've changed over to those cables and never had an issue.
With a life time repair/replace on them and a good price.
Care factor is 0.00

With a tuner in the signal chain I've never considered the mute button lead thingys either. I'm using some Leem cables that have been trouble free for 5 or 6 years now. I think as long as you buy something decent and spend more than $30 a cable is a cable. I don't swallow the Monster Cable and other cork sniffing cable hype. Canare and Neutrik is definitely a quality option though.

Forget that gear! Y'all need to speak with Al Howard, he'll make anything you need at seriously good prices. Melboure based and Aus wide postage is easy.
0421 042 138 (tell him Mad Dan sent you)

Al's made me some 4 way speakon speaker leads for my GK rig and some instrument cables, they're absolutely unbeatable for the money.

As an example of pricing, he makes top quality 10m instrument cables for $60 and ones identical to the Bass Centre magic leads for $40 (6m). Just talk to him about what you're after and he can sort you out.

Get on board!

My mates give me their busted leads and I solder em back up. Haven't had to pay for a lead for years.

I've had 3 Planet Waves cables fail on me in under a year (they still work, but have become a little temperamental at times, but it happened on some big gigs I was doing, and only during the gigs and not soundcheck, very annoying). I now use Dimarzio from my bass to my board and have never had a problem. When I buy more cables (don't need to right now) I'll definitely get Dimarzio again. Guy at the shop where my mate is assistant manager told me noone has ever returned a Dimarzio cable in the 5 or so years he's worked there, which makes it unique in that regard.
