HELP - No sound from my rig :(

Post by Lukas86 » 17 Jun 2018, 15:27

Hey all,
I'm running a GK 700RB with an older ampeg cab SVT 15. (1 x15" speaker).
Turn it on yesterday to find no sound :(
I haven't played it regularly, as I've just been using a small practice combo inside. Checked the cables from head to speaker and changed the lead with another one to make sure. Even used a different power cable for the head to check. I then checked the speaker for any signs of damage etc. The GK head turns on and lights up but there's not one sound- no 'white noise' or static before strumming any string, zilch!

Any suggestions on what the culprit might be? Could it be possible the SVT 15 has died ?

Thanks, Lukas

Sounds like the 15 in the cab is gone. You can test the resistance using a multimeter on the speaker lead terminal. If it’s open then that’s your problem. If you don’t have a multimeter you can use a battery to test the speaker. Google for instructions.

Does you combo amp have a speaker out socket? If you can plug the 15 into a different amp that will help narrow it down. Also try plugging the amp into a different speaker. A process of elimination should tell you which component has the trouble, and then you can work out from there what to do to solve it.

Amp: Eminar bass 400 into home made cab with JBL 15"

Stupid question, is the mute switch on the GK? Also try running a patch lead in the fx loop as these a notorious for causing issues on GKs.

Success! Tried it with an effects pedal loop and sound it back. Now it's also through direct input and back. Maybe it was the mute switch and I didn't even see it ! Thanks guys.

Good to hear. You can also put a little bit of contact cleaner on a jack and insert and remove a few time in the FX loop to clean the contacts.
