Peavey Minimega any1 tried 1?

Post by sharpman » 22 Apr 2018, 19:10

Hey folks, been keen on one of these for a while and have been looking at getting 1 from the states 2nd hand. I don't need a new amp as have found my happy place with a GK 700rbII but you know, I do like new stuff. So, has anyone tried either this or even the MiniMax? thoughts? cheers

Daughter got one for xmas. Think I paid abt AU$600 landed.
Plenty loud & plenty light. Her main cab is an 8 ohm 410XLT and the MiniMega does 700W into 8 ohms and can really drive the cab, but hardly worth the bother using a light weight head and a cab this heavy. M

Nice solid aluminium case, sockets & connectors feel rock solid. Stacked knobs usually require holding the inner while turning the outer. They don't feel flimsy but don't feel as rock solid as the rest of it. Fan noise is noticeable when not playing but it doesn't get real hot after a flogging.

Need to watch the gain on high output basses as the pre can become overwhelmed pretty easy. Can be difficult to dial in a tone as there are so many filters/slopes, parametric controls & boosts/cuts to play with.

The Kosmos thingy does sound pretty good even with big cabs without getting boomy and the color changing LEDS are very cool. should have a built in tuner, bag it ships with is more suited to being a handbag. MIDI footswitch is extra but can't see
the point of it. DI used for recording a couple of weeks ago but I've not yet heard it.

Don't like my P through it but do like G&L's & her Peavey Foundation but the Foundations sound good through a clock radio.

Sounds way better than my old Peavey 400 but unlikely to be as robust.
It's a lot of amp for $600.

Hifisoundconnection. PSU needs input voltage switch set and fuse changed to 4A.

It's a Mini Max is that the same thing? Hmm looks different.

But hey it's postcode 3351. Check it out.

*edit - I just invited you to that group.

Max has no compressor, EQ is 3 band whereas Meg is 4 with semi-para on the 2 mid ctrls but most important is only the Mega has color changing LED's on the panel.
